We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Engineer to join our AI Infrastructure team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to our cloud-based AI solutions and advance your career.

Currently, the AI Infrastructure team at WEX is at an exciting juncture, responsible for developing and maintaining scalable, secure cloud infrastructure that supports our AI and machine learning initiatives. We utilize technologies like AWS, Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes to create a dynamic environment for AI model development and deployment at scale.

This position involves tackling challenging problems with substantial business impact, supported by a talented team of engineers and leaders committed to your growth and success.

How you'll make an impact

• Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and stakeholders to understand AI/ML workload requirements and challenges.
• Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure cloud infrastructure on AWS and Azure, utilizing IaC tools like Terraform.
• Architect and manage containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for AI/ML applications.
• Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines for AI/ML model and infrastructure deployment.
• Implement monitoring and alerting systems to ensure infrastructure health and performance.
• Analyze system performance data to identify bottlenecks and optimize resource use.
• Stay updated on emerging cloud technologies and best practices in AI/ML infrastructure.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to the team's technical roadmap.
• Lead technical design discussions, ensuring alignment with business goals and scalability.
• Address potential risks and issues proactively.
• Collaborate across teams to ensure successful AI/ML project implementation.
• Represent the team in technical discussions with stakeholders.

Experience you'll bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• A Master's or PhD is a plus.
• 7+ years in software engineering or cloud infrastructure, with a focus on AI/ML infrastructure.
• Proficiency in programming languages like Java, Python, C/C++, or Golang.
• Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and relevant services.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes at scale.
• Experience in building and managing CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of networking in cloud environments.
• Experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor.
• Scripting skills in Python and Bash.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with MLOps tools and practices.
• Expertise in infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Contributions to open-source AI/ML infrastructure projects.
• Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark.
