Job summary

Google is seeking a Staff Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to lead NTI processes, overseeing the scale-up of PCBA manufacturing and materials technologies for Google's Cloud data center hardware. You will be the technical expert for advanced manufacturing and provide leadership for product development efforts.

You will work cross-functionally to influence technology direction and ensure the supply chain stack is ready for novel manufacturing and test approaches in production environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science field or equivalent experience.
  • 6 years in hardware manufacturing environment.
  • 3 years in technical leadership.
  • Experience with SMT and system integration.
  • Experience in process engineering and manufacturing strategy.
  • Experience in DFM and PFMEA.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design engineering on NTI roadmaps and enable new products via advanced manufacturing tech.
  • Lead experimental validation for novel technologies with formal DoE.
  • Align manufacturing partners' capabilities with Google product roadmaps.
  • Develop and qualify new manufacturing solutions for SMT, power and thermal needs.
  • Coordinate with supply chain to build robust new manufacturing supply chains.

As a Staff Advanced Manufacturing Engineer for the New Technology Introduction process, you will be an integral part of the Physical Infrastructure Engineering team. You will join the team that is responsible for releasing Google’s hardware to mass production and developing a supply chain to deliver it. Core responsibility begins with leading the development and scale of new PCBA manufacturing and materials technologies to enable the growing roadmap of Google Cloud data center products. You will be the technical expert for advanced manufacturing processes and provide technical leadership for the delivery of approaches and processes for our product development efforts.

In this role, you will work cross-functionally to influence technology direction and adoption for our data center products. You will also ensure that our supply chain stack is fully readied to execute novel manufacturing and test approaches in production environments.

Our Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team designs and builds the hardware and software technologies that power all of Google's services. Our computational challenges are complex and unique, enabled by cutting-edge custom hardware designed and made in‑house. As a hardware engineer, you will design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You will see those systems from concepts all the way through to high-volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting‑edge data centers, affecting millions of Google users.

  • Collaborate with design engineering on NPI roadmaps; develop strategy and plans to enable new products via advanced manufacturing technology and process development.
  • Lead experimental validation for novel technologies, materials, and processes, by developing and executing formal Designs of Experiments (DoE) to systematically identify and establish scalable manufacturing processes.
  • Lead effort to align manufacturing partners process capabilities with Google products roadmap. Contribute to the team's New Technology Introduction (NTI) strategy.
  • Lead the research, development, and characterization of new manufacturing solutions to meet SMT, power and thermal requirements. Innovative manufacturing processes solutions and capabilities including industry first process definition, startup and qualification.
  • Coordinate with supply chain managers to identify and build up robust new manufacturing supply chains. Conduct process audits at potential suppliers and manufacturing partners where necessary.
