Job summary

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi seeks a Staff Accountant to support the Treasury Team in investment accounting, cash flow management and treasury functions that fund health initiatives. You will help maintain financial strength and regulatory compliance, contributing to the organization’s mission of healthier Mississippians.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance/Business with solid GAAP knowledge and experience in treasury or cash management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with a 3.25 GPA.
• Experience in Accounting, Finance, Treasury and/or Cash Management preferred.
• Working knowledge of GAAP.
• Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Insurance accounting background or SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administer long-term investment portfolios and related accounting.
• Record investment transactions and income per GAAP and SAP rules.
• Reconcile investment accounts with custodians and managers.
• Support reporting and analysis of investment performance.
• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations and schedules for treasury and investments.
• Serve as a back-up to Cash Management responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

• Administer and account for long-term investment portfolios.
• Record investment transactions, interest/dividend income in accordance with GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles.
• Reconcile investment accounts and coordinate with custodians and asset managers.
• Support reporting and analysis of investment performance to ensure alignment with the Company’s goals and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations and schedules related to treasury and investments.
• Serve as a back-up to Cash Management responsibilities.

Job-Specific Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with a 3.25 GPA.
• Experience working in Accounting, Finance, Treasury and/or Cash Management preferred.
• Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Must have strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Insurance accounting background or working with SAP (Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) preferred.
