Job summary

Marsh’s Accounting Operations team in Urbandale is seeking a Staff Accountant II to support general ledger, journal entries, and month-end close in a hybrid work environment requiring in-office presence at least six days per month.

The role emphasizes analysis, reconciliations, policies, and collaboration across onshore/offshore teams, with opportunities to grow in PowerBI/SQL and broader accounting processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related.
• 2+ years of accounting experience.
• Balance sheet and account reconciliation knowledge and experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically MS Excel
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Organizational and time management skills
• Analytical and problem-solving mind-set
• Experienced with PowerBI and/or SQL

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and/or approve journal entries, money moves, administrative system accounting reports and/or consolidated statements
• Analyze and maintain the general ledger accounts and/or client insured records
• Prepare and analyze revenue and/or expense reports; coordinates revenue and expense accruals and ensures timely and accurate monthly and quarterly close
• Perform variation and trend analysis for key general ledger accounts, including variances to forecast, budget and prior year
• Apply and balance funds to insured records; may process refunds to insured records; may request payments for carriers and third parties including variances to forecast, budget and prior year
• Prepare higher level of reconciliations between administrative systems and other sources
• Verify work of and provide guidance or training to less experienced levels of accountants
• Ensure compliance with corporate policies, carrier agreements, SOX procedures, SSAE16 procedures tax regulations, local GAAP and US GAAP and local statutory regulations (as applicable) regarding financial matters
• Assist in the development and implementation of internal accounting policies, transitions to and from teams both onshore and offshore, procedures and process improvements for general accounting functions
• Perform other duties as assigned

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Accounting Operations team at Marsh. This role will be based in Urbandale and offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring a minimum of six days per month in the office.

As a Staff Accountant II, you will provide accounting support requiring familiarity and experience in accounting practices. You will have the opportunity to add value as a key contributor to the team.

We will count on you to:
