Job summary

Community Health Plan of Washington is seeking a Staff Accountant II to perform detailed financial analysis, manage AR, and support the Finance department with reporting and reconciliations. The role requires GAAP knowledge and strong Excel skills, with hands-on experience using ACCPAC, Oracle, or Crystal Reports.

Responsibilities include tracking BH/BHSO funds, assisting with accruals, vendor A/P, 1099s, fixed assets, and monthly close processes, while collaborating with cross-functional teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years accounting/finance experience.
  • Experience with ACCPAC, Oracle or Crystal Reports for financial reporting.
  • 2 years of experience creating reports and data.
  • Advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, lookups.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze off-system BH and BHSO funds; manage accounts receivable and invoicing.
  • Provide management with expenditure trend analyses and decision support.
  • Track IMC BH and BHSO funds, suggest accruals and payable actions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to build analytics and management reports.
  • Support budgeting, data requests, and general ledger reconciliations.

About the Role

The Staff Accountant II is responsible for including tracking and analysis of off systems behavioral health Integrated Managed Care (IMC) Behavioral Health (BH) and behavioral health state only (BHSO) state funds/claims. This position is also responsible for analysis of prepaid expenses, fixed assets and depreciation, general administrative support to the Finance department.

To be successful in this role, you:
  • Have minimum four (4)) years of experience in accounting/Finance or a 4-year Bachelor’s degree.
  • Have experience working with accounting and financial reporting software such as AccPac, Oracle or Crystal reports.
  • Have two (2) years of experience creating reports and data.
  • Have experience working with Microsoft Office products, specifically advanced knowledge of Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, lookups, conditional logic.
Essential functions and Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the analysis of BHSO funds, request for check issuance and invoices; maintenance of Accounts Receivable.
  • Provide decision support and recommendations to management through analysis of expenditure trends of BH/BHSO.
  • Responsible for the tracking and analysis of IMC BH and BHSO funds and claims including the recommendation for accruals, off system claims payable and collaboration with Healthcare Economics.
  • Work cross-functionally to prepare and/or review analytics and management reporting, working closely with business partners to recommend, develop, and implement new metrics or reports.
  • Provide decision support for department, including data requests for financial statements accruals, bids, and budget.
  • Responsible for invoicing vendor accounts payable transactions and check issuance and general ledger entries and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Coordinate 1099 issuance and reconciliation.
  • Fixed assets inventory maintenance and related depreciation schedules, entries, and reconciliations.
  • Maintains unclaimed property accounts and issues letters for outstanding checks on monthly basis.
  • Responsible for general administrative support to the Finance Department; maintenance of accounting files; general and administrative expense accruals, and projects.
  • Responsible for the review and improvement of new and existing processes and policies within Finance. Supports Finance projects and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned. Essential functions listed are not necessarily exhaustive and may be revised by the employer, at its sole discretion.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting software (ACCPAC, Oracle, Crystal Reports)
  • Knowledge of GAAP fundamentals and the “why” behind accruals, deferrals, and reclasses.
  • Understanding of financial statement relationships and how transactions impact P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
  • Knowledge of close-to-reporting cycle, including variance analysis and flux explanations.
  • Familiarity with accounting policies, internal control requirements, and audit support expectations.
  • Working knowledge of ERP processes (sub-ledgers to GL, posting logic, interface/error handling).
  • Ability to work with general guidance, prioritizing competing deadlines during close.
  • Ability to interpret policy and apply it to moderately complex scenarios.
  • Ability to own a process and drive issues to resolution.

Compensation and Benefits:

The position is FLSA Non-Exempt and is eligible for overtime. Based on market data, this position grade is 43 and has a 5% annual incentive target based on company, department, and individual performance goals.
