Job summary

The State of Indiana, including the Hoosier Lottery, seeks a Staff Accountant I to maintain the general ledger, prepare analyses, and assist with accounts payable. This role emphasizes accuracy, analytical thinking, and cross-department collaboration to deliver reliable financial reporting.

Responsibilities include journal entries, reconciliations, and coordinating monthly closings, with payroll backup for the Comptroller’s office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or financial management with at least one year of professional accounting experience.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration across teams.
• GAAP knowledge and understanding of accounting principles.
• Experience using computerized accounting systems; proficiency with MS Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Review daily bank activity and ensure transactions are recorded properly.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies.
• Prepare journal entries and analyze account balances.
• Track investments for deferred prizes and reconcile related accounts.
• Monitor monthly accruals and prepare budget-related analyses.
• Coordinate monthly budgets with executive staff and assist with annual budgets.
• Prepare monthly financial statements for leadership and provide audit-ready information.
• Back-up payroll processing for the Comptroller's office.
• Assist Hoosier Lottery accounting duties at the Indiana State Fair.
