Job summary

American National Insurance seeks a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our General Accounting team in a hands-on role focused on journal entries, reconciliations, and timely financial reporting.

The position supports key close activities, ledger work, and cross-functional collaboration within a centralized accounting function, offering opportunity for depth and growth within a stable organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2+ years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in general accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, or close support.
• Strong understanding of debits, credits, reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
• Ability to work accurately in a deadline-driven close environment.
• Comfortable taking direction, asking thoughtful questions, and following work through completion.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-up.
• Ability to collaborate well with team members and cross-functional business partners.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and input journal entries with accurate support and documentation
• Complete account reconciliations and help resolve variances or outstanding items
• Support close activities
• Assist with general ledger accounting tasks and related financial reporting support
• Help strengthen and document accounting processes, templates, and procedures
• Collaborate with accounting, finance, actuarial, and other business partners as work transitions into the centralized accounting team
• Manage assigned tasks, while meeting deadlines and maintaining strong attention to detail
