The position has a strong emphasis on construction and project accounting, including job and project cost tracking, construction-in-progress, fixed assets, project closeouts, and project-level revenue and cost activity. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager, Project Managers, operations, and the broader Vero Finance team to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, well-supported, and audit-ready.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations, research reconciling items, and drive items to timely resolution.
  • Review general ledger activity for appropriate coding, classification, entity, market, project, and other relevant accounting dimensions.
  • Support monthly financial statement review and investigate unusual trends, variances, or activity.
  • Assist with intercompany accounting and reconciliations across Vero entities.
Construction & Project Accounting
  • Support and own recurring construction accounting activities, including job and project cost tracking, project coding, construction-in-progress (CIP), work-in-process, and project closeout activity.
  • Review construction and capital expenditures for appropriate accounting treatment, project assignment, and capitalization.
  • Support the movement of completed construction projects from CIP into fixed assets and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Assist with project-level revenue and cost accounting, including percentage-of-completion or other revenue recognition activities where applicable.
  • Partner with Project Managers and operational teams to understand project activity, investigate cost variances, resolve coding issues, and improve project reporting.
  • Assist with project setup, budgets, attributes, and ongoing project data maintenance within NetSuite and other operational systems.
  • Support accounting for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and other construction-related costs as applicable.
Reporting, Controls & Audit
  • Maintain clear, organized, and audit-ready support for journal entries, reconciliations, project accounting, and other assigned areas.
  • Assist with recurring and ad hoc financial and operational reporting for Accounting, Finance, and business stakeholders.
  • Support internal and external audit requests and help ensure documentation and accounting conclusions are well-supported.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, standardize processes, improve reporting, and reduce manual work.
Cross-Functional & Growth Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the broader Vero Finance organization and operational teams in a growing, multi-entity environment.
  • Support integration of acquired businesses, new markets, systems, and accounting processes as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 - 3 years of accounting experience with exposure to month-end close, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and core accounting concepts, including accrual accounting and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with detailed financial and operational data.
  • Ability to independently manage assigned responsibilities, meet deadlines, research issues, and follow items through resolution.
  • Ownership mindset with the ability to independently manage recurring accounting responsibilities.
