Description
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting accurate financial reporting, day-to-day accounting operations, and compliance within a healthcare environment. This role maintains general ledger activity, prepares reconciliations and journal entries, assists with month-end close, and supports audits, budgeting, and regulatory reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with confidential financial, patient-related, and employee information.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, post, and review journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
- Maintain general ledger accounts and reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts, including cash, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activity.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including account analysis and variance explanations.
- Prepare financial statements, schedules, management reports, and other accounting reports as assigned.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, expense analysis, and cost reporting activities for departments and/or service lines.
- Review invoices, vendor statements, deposits, reimbursements, and other transactions for accuracy, timeliness, and proper coding.
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses to information requests.
- Help ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, organizational policies, and healthcare-related requirements.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records in accordance with retention, confidentiality, and privacy standards.
- Collaborate with finance, operations, department managers, billing teams, and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and improve workflows.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Three to five years of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience; healthcare experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
- Experience with accounting software, financial systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion, including information governed by healthcare privacy expectations.
