Job summary

Paylocity is seeking a Staff Accountant to perform general accounting duties under the Accounting Manager and Controller. You will maintain ledgers, prepare financial statements, forecast budgets, and analyze variances while ensuring compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.

The role requires 3 years of related experience in a healthcare environment, with strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills and a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of GAAP with strong numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Three (3) years recent full-time accounting/finance experience, healthcare preferred.
  • Advanced Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong time management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, maintain, and reconcile ledger accounts and financial statements.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Post month-end close journal entries; reconcile bank statements and ledgers.
  • Provide ad hoc reports and standard reports to Administration and departments.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Accounting Manager in collaboration with the Controller, the Staff Accountant performs general accounting activities, including the preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements, such as balance sheets, profit, and loss statements, cash flow statements and capital expenditure schedules. Prepares records, analyzes and reports accounting transactions, and ensures the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with TJC, federal and state guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Provides financial support including forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing variations from the budget. Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
  1. Responsible for developing information needed for specific projects and reports as needed by the Accounting Manager.
  2. Assists the Finance Leadership and Director of Decision Support with budget preparations and monitoring of monthly departmental operational budgets.
  3. Prepares month-end closing journal entries for each period and posts in the general ledger.
  4. Reconcile various receivables, prepaid expenses, amortization, liabilities, and various P & L accounts and explain variances.
  5. Reconciles all bank statements and general ledger bank accounts.
  6. Posts the Nursing Home monthly receipts and revenue to the general ledger.
  7. Completes monthly post-closing reports for review by Accounting Manager and Controller.
  8. Maintains the capital asset ledger and runs monthly depreciation schedules.
  9. Prepares the Accounts Receivable and Capital reports and forwards them to the Accounting Manager.
  10. Prepares the contract billing receivable report.
  11. Prepares invoices as assigned.
  12. Distributes monthly cost center schedules.
  13. Assists external auditors in year-end audits and prepares various account analyses.
  14. Maintains equipment and workspace in a neat and organized manner.
  15. Reports hazardous conditions/equipment problems to Controller and/or maintenance promptly, and records in maintenance log.
  16. Investigates, gather information and answer routine queries arising from Administration and Directors.
  17. Creates standard and ad hoc reports for Administration and other departments as requested.
  18. Develops and maintains advanced Excel spreadsheets.
  19. Apply basic accounting knowledge and techniques to all areas of work.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of Associate's Degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred, and three years directly related experience and/or training, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Formal Training: knowledge of finance or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with Strong numeracy and analytical skills, good problem-solving and time management skills, highly organized and detail-oriented, and Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: None

Work Experience: Three (3) years recent full-time paid experience performing increasingly responsible accounting/finance work, healthcare industry preferred.

Computer skills: Candidates must possess advanced skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
