Staff Accountant (US - Richmond, VA)

Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed reviews and categorization of complaints, ensuring accurate classification and documentation aligned with internal protocols.
- Apply knowledge of criminal justice or accounting principles to identify patterns, trends, and potential compliance issues within complaint data.
- Prepare comprehensive status reports and other applicable workpapers.
- Collaborate with client and firm compliance teams to escalate issues requiring further investigation or resolution.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in handling sensitive complaint information.
- Participate in interviews and stakeholder meetings to gather context and clarify complaint details.
- Assist in the development of reporting templates or dashboards to track complaint resolution metrics.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process gaps and recommending enhancements.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills to summarize findings and present recommendations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Accounting, or related field required; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CFE, CPA) preferred.
- Prior experience in audit, investigations, compliance, or complaint-related work strongly preferred.
- Knowledge in multiple areas including FASAB, GAO GAS, AICPA AU-Cs, FAM, FISCAM, OMB Bulletins, USSGL, and related federal reporting standards preferred.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
What you need to succeed
- Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting or Criminal Justice preferred. CPA preferred.
- Prior audit internship/work experience or advanced degree preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in Richmond, Virginia.
