Job Overview – Staff Accountant
Compensation: $34 – $38/hour
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Staff Accountant in New York, NY for our client, supporting accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role will manage day-to-day accounting activities, support the month-end close process, maintain accurate financial records, and help improve reporting and accounting processes within a growing professional services environment.
Responsibilities as the Staff Accountant:
- Accounts Payable: Process and code vendor invoices, coordinate approvals, and maintain accurate accounts payable records.
- Billing & Receivables: Prepare client invoices, record payments, monitor outstanding receivables, and follow up on past-due balances.
- Month-End Close: Complete bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations while supporting monthly close activities.
- Payroll & Expenses: Process payroll-related accounting entries and manage employee expense reimbursements.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements, billing reports, receivables reporting, and other management reports.
- Process Improvement: Assist with accounting data cleanup and develop reporting for cash flow, spending, and other financial metrics.
Qualifications for the Staff Accountant:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Experience: 2–3 years of accounting experience with hands‑on accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting responsibilities is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Professional services or law firm accounting experience is required.
- Technical Skills: QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel proficiency are required, with billing, timekeeping, or expense management system experience preferred.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, problem-solving, initiative, and ability to manage multiple accounting priorities are required.
