Job description

About Us

The Just One Project's mission is to increase access to food, resources, and supportive services to build a stronger, healthier, and more connected community. The Just One Project has a culture of attracting the most passionate and talented people to represent The Just One Project by reinforcing strong values, work-life balance, and diversity. We know that our company culture ultimately affects client experience. Every program is designed with our clients in mind; we are "client-centric."

Everything we do is guided by our core values: Respect, Integrity, Innovation, and Compassion, and by our Gold Standard of service. We believe every person who walks through our doors deserves to be treated with the same care, dignity, and respect as you'd want for your own family.

That commitment extends behind the scenes, too. Strong financial stewardship allows our teams to serve the community, responsibly manage the resources entrusted to us, and continue growing our impact. We're looking for someone who brings accuracy and accountability to their work while understanding the bigger purpose behind the numbers.

About the Role

As the Staff Accountant, you'll play an important role in keeping the financial operations of The Just One Project accurate, organized, and moving forward.

Working closely with our Director of Finance, you'll support day-to-day accounting activities, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, grant reimbursement documentation, financial reporting, and compliance. You'll help make sure our records are accurate, our documentation is complete, and the resources that fund our programs are responsibly managed.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who loves a good spreadsheet, appreciates when everything reconciles exactly as it should, and wants their work to have an impact beyond the numbers.

The ideal person for this role is detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable managing competing deadlines, and able to bring both precision and problem-solving to a busy nonprofit environment.

This is a full-time position requiring approximately 40 hours per week. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during audits, special projects, or organization-wide events.

What You'll Do
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records, including invoices, receipts, vendor documentation, W-9s, ACH forms, and in-kind donation records
  • Use QuickBooks Online to enter, organize, and manage financial transactions and supporting documentation
  • Process ACH and invoice payments and complete payment verifications
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
  • Reconcile credit card expenses, bank transactions, and balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare journal entries and support monthly financial close and Finance Department checklist activities
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly grant reimbursement requests, including gathering invoices, receipts, timesheets, proof of payment, and other required backup documentation
  • Complete reimbursement forms and transaction worksheets and help organize complete, audit-ready reimbursement packets
  • Prepare weekly deposit logs and partner with the Development team to reconcile financial information
  • Collect and organize staff timesheets by pay period
  • Maintain and update vendor information in QuickBooks Online
  • Support deposits, withdrawals, financial documentation, and record storage
  • Help ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting requirements, internal policies, grant requirements, and financial controls
  • Support the Director of Finance and Executive Leadership with special projects and other financial or administrative needs
  • Represent The Just One Project at organization-wide events, including participation in six mandatory Pop Up & Give events each year
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Five or more years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles, including FASB standards and fund accounting
  • Demonstrated proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, and successfully manage multiple priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of discretion, integrity, and professionalism when handling confidential financial information
  • A valid, unrestricted driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • A commitment to teamwork, accountability, and living out our core values of Respect, Integrity, Innovation, and Compassion
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA license or progress toward CPA
  • Experience with restricted funding and government grant accounting
  • One or more years of nonprofit experience
