Job description

Summary

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the monthly close process, monitoring accounts receivable, and ensuring proper revenue recognition in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), FQHC regulations, and organizational policies. The position supports financial reporting, reconciliations, grant compliance, and revenue cycle activities. The Accountant will demonstrate Christ-like behavior and attitude in all job duties and responsibilities as an employee of Los Angeles Christian Health Centers (LACHC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and post journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing activities.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger.
  • Monitor and maintain patient accounts receivable, including aging analysis, collection trends, and reconciliation to billing system reports.
  • Perform monthly revenue recognition for patient service revenue, capitation revenue, grant revenue, and other healthcare-related revenue streams.
  • Analyze encounters, claims, payments, adjustments, and unapplied cash to ensure accurate revenue reporting.
  • Track and reconcile third-party payer receivables, including Medicare, Medi-Cal, managed care, and commercial insurance.
  • Investigate and resolve revenue and receivable discrepancies in collaboration with Revenue Cycle and Billing departments.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, schedules, and variance analyses.
  • Assist with grant accounting, reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Support annual audits, cost reports, Form 990 preparation, and other regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with organizational policies and accounting standards.
  • Able to perform Accounts Payable and Payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate payment of vendors and employees.
  • Review, approve, and maintain the accuracy and completeness of fiscal records, accounting transactions, reconciliations, and supporting documentation in accordance with GAAP, FQHC requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and special financial projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum three to five years of accounting experience, preferably in healthcare, nonprofit, or FQHC environments.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition principles, and healthcare accounts receivable processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • California Driver License – reliable transportation; valid car insurance. CPR certification required.
