Job summary

Guidon Design is seeking a Staff Accountant to ensure accurate monthly close, maintain the general ledger, and support project managers with financial guidance throughout project lifecycles. The role emphasizes GAAP compliance, reconciliations, and process improvements within a multidisciplinary services firm.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of accounting experience, a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and strong Excel skills.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience in professional services, architecture, engineering, or consulting environments.
  • Familiarity with project accounting and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
  • Experience working with multi-entity organizations.
  • Exposure to ERP systems such as Deltek Vantagepoint, Unanet, or similar.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post complex journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes for accurate reporting.
  • Analyze financial results, identify trends or variances, and recommend actions.
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for monthly/annual reports and tax filings.
  • Maintain fixed asset and prepaid schedules, including depreciation.
  • Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll transactions for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with cash management, including bank reconciliations and cash forecasting.
  • Develop and improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other accounting staff and project managers throughout project lifecycles.
  • Provide guidance on project financials, contract administration, invoicing, collections, and project setup.

Job Purpose:

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of Guidon's financial information. This position is responsible for supporting the monthly close process, maintaining the general ledger, preparing reconciliations and financial analyses, and continuously improving accounting processes and controls. In addition to core accounting responsibilities, the Staff Accountant serves as a trusted partner to Project Managers by providing financial guidance throughout the project lifecycle, helping ensure sound project financial management, accurate reporting, and informed business decisions. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, collaboration, and a commitment to delivering high-quality financial support across the organization.
