Job summary

CapCenter in Virginia is seeking a Staff Accountant to join a collaborative, high-performing team. You’ll own daily accounting across balance sheet, escrow, and operating accounts, ensuring accuracy and strong internal controls.

You’ll contribute to monthly and year-end closes, perform reconciliations, and support audits while working with Senior Accountants to improve policies and processes. A CPA is preferred or in progress, with 2–3 years of experience.

Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of GAAP and applying it consistently.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university.
• CPA preferred or in progress.
• 2–3 years of public accounting and/or industry experience preferred.
• High standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Comfort in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, and experience with ERP systems.
• Collaborative, growth-oriented mindset and team player.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end daily accounting across balance sheet, settlement, escrow, and operating accounts.
• Timely and precise general ledger entries, reconciliations, and reviews for reliable reporting.
• Contribute to monthly and year-end close with analytical review of accounts.
• Daily cash and loan balancing, monthly reconciliations, and issue resolution with other departments.
• Collaborate with Senior Accountants to master and improve accounting policies and processes.
• Participate in internal and external audits and strengthen internal controls.
• Drive continuous process improvement within the Accounting Department.

What You’ll Own:

• End-to-end responsibility for daily accounting activity across balance sheet, settlement, escrow, and operating accounts — with a focus on accuracy and control.
• Timely and precise general ledger entries, reconciliations, and reviews that ensure clean books and reliable financial reporting.
• A key role in monthly and year-end close processes, including analytical review of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Daily cash and loan balancing, monthly account reconciliations, and proactive issue resolution in partnership with other departments.
• Close collaboration with Senior Accountants to master CapCenter’s accounting policies, systems, and processes — and to continuously improve them.
• Active participation in internal and external audits (including Financial Statement and RESA audits), along with hands‑on involvement in strengthening internal controls.
• Continuous process improvement — you’ll be expected to ask questions, spot inefficiencies, and help raise the bar for how the Accounting Department operates.

What We’re Looking For:
