Job summary

Jacobsen & Company, LLP, a growing CPA firm in Des Moines, seeks a Staff Accountant to gain broad exposure to tax and accounting work and to interact directly with clients. The role offers increasing responsibility as you develop professionally, with on-site work in Des Moines.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's in accounting, CPA eligibility or pursuit, and strong attention to detail plus solid communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
• 3.0 GPA or higher preferred
• CPA eligibility or an interest in pursuing the CPA designation preferred
• Ability to work on-site at our Des Moines office
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to handle confidential client information appropriately
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and take on increasing responsibility

Responsibilities

• Prepare individual, business, nonprofit, and other tax returns
• Prepare financial statements and accounting workpapers
• Perform bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations
• Prepare and post journal entries
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and outsourced accounting services
• Review financial information for accuracy and investigate discrepancies
• Communicate with clients to obtain information and resolve routine questions
• Maintain organized electronic workpapers and client documentation
• Work with senior accountants and managers on increasingly complex tax and accounting engagements

Compensation and Benefits

• Competitive base salary based on experience and qualifications
• Comp time for hours worked over 40: each additional hour worked is added to your available paid time off
• Staff typically earn approximately 3–5 additional weeks of comp time during tax season, which may be taken as time off or paid as additional compensation
• 10% base salary increase upon passing the CPA exam
• 20% commission on collections from clients you bring to the firm
