Job summary

Hightower Advisors, based in Chicago, seeks a Staff Accountant to support the Controllership function. You will be part of a small team, reporting to the Revenue Manager, handling bank reconciliations, AR analysis, and GL entries as part of a fast-paced finance group.

The role requires a BA in accounting and 1–3+ years of experience, with strong Excel skills and the ability to collaborate across departments. Hybrid schedule with on-site presence in Chicago and occasional remote work on Fridays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
• 1-3+ years of accounting experience.
• Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Data Sorting).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed monthly bank reconciliations in Oracle.
• Monitor and analyze accounts receivable with billing team and advisor community.
• Prepare general ledger entries related to cash and revenue.
• Ensure accurate monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Review monthly P&Ls for advisor businesses with variance explanations.
• Review and resolve financial inquiries related to responsibilities.
• Collaborate with internal operations and third-party providers on deliverables.
• Support annual financial audits as needed.
• Build collaborative, team-oriented relationships.

Your Future Team

We are seeking a successfulStaff Accountant who is a multi-tasker at heart, with strong communication skills and a problem-solving mindset that thrives in a fast-paced and evolving organization. This individual will be within a team of three and reporting directly to the Revenue Manager. This high performing group is a sub-team within the larger Controllership function that has over twenty individuals and is part of the larger finance departments organization. Our ideal candidate is coachable, has the willingness to learn, and consistently performs at a high level under variable workloads within the expense team. What You’ll Do

• Prepare detailed monthly bank reconciliations in Oracle
• Monitor and analyze accounts receivable by maintaining a close relationship with the billing team and advisor community
• Prepare general ledger entries related to cash and revenue
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
• Review and analyze monthly P&Ls for advisor businesses for accuracy, providing variance explanations where applicable
• Review and resolve financial-related inquiries specific to your responsibilities
• Collaborate with internal operations and third-party providers on timing and support of deliverables
• Support with annual financial audit where needed
• Create and foster collaborative, team-oriented relationships

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience
• 1-3+ years of experience
• Qualities: Strong technical and analytical skills, time management and multi-tasking ability, detail-oriented, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work with a team
• Proficiencies:
• Required - Excel (specifically VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and Data Sorting)
• Preferred – Oracle Cloud, Smart View
