Opaa! Food Management is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the month-end close, AR/AP, and related accounting activities.

The ideal candidate will have a solid grasp of accounting principles and strong attention to detail, enabling accurate journal entries, reconciliations, and timely invoicing. Responsibilities include processing month-end entries, maintaining vendor data, and ensuring accurate cash receipt application in Great Plains.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a similar position.

  • Understanding of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with creating and manipulating spreadsheets.

  • Strong ability to integrate and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with MS Office.
  • Basic understanding of accounting software and report builders; knowledge of Great Plains and Prophix is a plus.
  • Must be able to appropriately handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare month-end journal entries as assigned.
  • Perform account reconciliations with in-depth research and analysis.
  • Export billing data from Boss software and produce accurate, detailed monthly invoices.
  • Create weekly customer billings for catering and other events.
  • Maintain all cash receipts in Great Plains, including deposits and cash application of receivables.
  • Facilitate payment of invoices by sending reminders and contacting clients when payment is overdue.
  • Review AR aging to identify overdue accounts and resolve discrepancies; document interactions.
  • Resolve discrepancies and write-offs when approved.
  • Set up new vendors and maintain vendor information in Great Plains.
  • Assist with month-end billing accruals.
  • Understand accounting systems and their impact on financial data (Great Plains, Prophix, Emburse expenses reporting, Boss, ADP).
  • Engage with customers professionally to build positive relationships.
  • Recommend process improvements to senior management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Staff Accountant is responsible for various accounting functions surrounding the month-end closing process, while also assisting with accounts payable and accounts receivable responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

  • Prepare month-end journal entries as assigned.
  • Perform account reconciliations, which will require in-depth research and analysis.
  • Export billing data from Boss software and produce accurate, detailed, monthly invoices to our clients.
  • Create weekly customer billings for catering and other special events.
  • Create and maintain all cash receipts in Great Plains, including miscellaneous deposits and cash application of receivables.
  • Facilitate payment of invoices due from clients by sending reminders and contacting clients when payment has not been received by date due.
  • Continuously review the AR aging report to identify overdue accounts and take necessary steps to resolve, maintaining detailed documentation of all interactions and actions taken.
  • Resolve discrepancies and client billing issues; perform write-offs when approved.
  • Set up new vendors and maintain existing vendor information in Great Plains.
  • Assist with the preparation of month-end billing accruals.
  • Gain an understanding of all accounting systems and how they impact financial data, including Great Plains, Prophix, Emburse expenses reporting, Boss and ADP.
  • Engage with customers in a professional, courteous and respectful manner to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Maintain focus on continuous improvement and solutions by recommending process improvements to senior management.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Experience:
