We are seeking a hands-on General Ledger Accountant to join an operationally complex organization. This role is ideal for an accountant who enjoys owning meaningful portions of the month-end close, working across revenue, expenses, and balance sheet accounts, and investigating accounting issues from root cause through resolution.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting a large, multi-entity, multi-location, or operationally complex organization, such as manufacturing, distribution, logistics, transportation, healthcare, environmental services, or another business with facilities, inventory, field operations, or production.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries as part of the monthly and quarterly close process.
- Own meaningful portions of the month-end close, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
- Support revenue and expense accounting, including accruals, adjustments, reclasses, and other journal entries.
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, researching and resolving reconciling items.
- Analyze P&L and balance sheet activity and investigate unusual fluctuations or variances.
- Identify missing or incorrect accounting activity, research root causes, and determine appropriate corrections.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly operational and financial reports.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
- Assist with CAPEX accounting, fixed asset transfers, and asset retirements.
- Support internal controls, GAAP compliance, SOX requirements, and statutory reporting.
- Assist with internal, external, and peer audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting, Tax, Treasury, IT, HR, Legal, Sales, Finance, and operational teams.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of corporate/industry accounting experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Broad General Ledger accounting experience with hands-on month-end close responsibilities.
- Experience preparing and posting journal entries across revenue, expenses, and balance sheet accounts.
- Strong understanding of accrual-basis accounting and how transactions flow through the financial statements.
- Experience with multiple non-cash balance sheet reconciliations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate variances and resolve reconciliation issues.
- Advanced Excel skills, including INDEX/MATCH, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and PivotTables.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and initiative.
- Ability to work collaboratively with both accounting and non-accounting teams.
- Willingness to learn, take on additional responsibilities, and grow within the organization.
