Job summary

Turf Star / Western is seeking an AP Staff Accountant to join our back-office team in California. You will work under the AP Manager, handling vendor invoices, recurring transactions, tax accruals, reconciliations, and weekly check runs for a growing distribution business partnered with The Toro Company.

TSW is focused on three key areas: Sales, Service, and Inventory Control. The Staff Accountant position works in tandem with the Controller, responsible for the transaction side of acquiring, transferring, and disposing of agronomy equipment and parts inventory.

The Staff Accountant reports to the AP Manager. In addition to cultural fit, Turf Star is looking for candidates with an accounting degree and prior accounting experience. Comfort with technology and distribution experience are added pluses, though we equally value positive energy and a team‑oriented, service‑first attitude.

Accounts Payable

• Verify and accurately record corporate expense invoices
• Set up and maintain recurring corporate expense transactions
• Accrue use tax on goods purchased where sales tax is exempt or not collected
• Maintain accurate AP bill records and validate supporting documentation for compliance
• Follow up with department and approval managers to ensure timely bill approval for weekly check runs
• Ensure all bills are paid efficiently to avoid past‑duesOptimize cash flow by taking advantage of early payment discounts and meeting short‑term obligations
• Process positive pay exceptions
• Set up and maintain new vendor accounts
• Reconcile vendor statements monthly and resolve discrepancies
• Mail weekly check runs and initiate ACH/wire transfers

Month‑End Close

• Balance sheet account reconciliations
• Reclassifications and journal entries
• Variance analysis
• Create and submit corporate card administrative expense reports

Compliance

• Business license renewals
• Quarterly report preparation and filing for contract management
• Assist with 571‑L property tax return preparation
• Reconcile quarterly 1099 records for year‑end filing
• Other compliance‑related reporting as needed

Other Duties

• Inventory receiving: stock orders, drop ships, and intangible inventory
• Record unrecorded cash disbursements
• Co‑op marketing filings
• Assist with internal and external audit documentation
• Support senior management and ad‑hoc projects as needed
