Job summary

Bascom Hunter, an aerospace and defense engineering company in Baton Rouge, seeks a Staff Accountant with government cost accounting expertise. You will prepare and analyze financial data, maintain ledgers, and support audits while ensuring compliance with CAS and FAR.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in accounting/finance and at least 3 years of relevant government cost accounting experience, with proficiency in Deltek Costpoint being a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience with emphasis on government cost accounting.
• Experience with Deltek Costpoint is a plus.
• Knowledge of government cost accounting standards (CAS) and FAR is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, analyze, and report financial data ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations and policies.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure accounting standards are met.
• Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Support budgets, forecasts, and cost allocations.
• Prepare and review cost reports, invoices, and government contract documents.
• Assist with internal and external audits and provide documentation as needed.
• Collaborate with project managers to provide financial insights for decisions.
• Continuously improve accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy.

As we continue to expand, we are seeking a skilled Staff Accountant with expertise in government cost accounting to join our team.

Bascom Hunter is looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, government regulations, and compliance requirements specific to the aerospace and defense industry. Experience with Deltek Costpoint is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare, analyze, and report financial data accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with government regulations and company policies.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Support the development and monitoring of budgets, forecasts, and cost allocations.
• Ensure compliance with government cost accounting standards (CAS) and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
• Prepare and review cost reports, invoices, and other financial documents for government contracts.
• Conduct audits and reviews of financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Collaborate with project managers and other departments to provide financial insights and support for decision-making.
• Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations as needed.
• Continuously improve accounting processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on government cost accounting.
• Proficiency in accounting software; experience with Deltek Costpoint is a plus.
• Understanding of government cost accounting standards (CAS) and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
