Job summary

Agape Therapeutic Riding Resources is seeking Stable Assistants to maintain a safe, clean barn and support riders, families, and volunteers.

You will assist with feeding, stall and lot cleaning, health monitoring, medication administration as directed, and ensuring a welcoming environment for equines and people.

The role is part-time with Saturday shifts, $12–$14 per hour, and requires Indiana driver's license and experience with horses.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Daily barn duties: assist feedings, water all horses, and monitor health.

  • Report concerns to supervisor; inspect health and soundness of equines.
  • Administer medication when directed by Equine Manager.

Job Description

Role Description:Stable Assistants work closely with our team to maintain a safe and clean environment for our equines, volunteers, and riders. They will assist with feeding equines, monitoring their general health and soundness, cleaning stalls, as well as dry lots, and making sure the barn aisle is swept after completing barn chores. Stable Assistants are critical to our team by helping ensure that we provide the best experience and environment for our riders, families, schools, and, of course, our equines.

Accountability: Report to the Equine Manager.

Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age and have an Indiana Driver’s License. Must have experience with equines—knowledge of health, wellness, and training. Must have basic technology skills and proficiencies, must be reliable and have a strong attention to detail. Personal maturity and the ability to work independently with integrity, as well as a strong desire to work as an effective team member is required.

Compensation: Part-time hourly position; Currently Saturday shifts only at this time (AM and PM). No weekday hours available. Hourly pay rate: $12-14 per hour

Primary Responsibilities

Daily Barn Responsibilities: During both AM & PM feed shifts, you are to be at the barn for a full 2 hours. During this time, the following should be completed:

  • Check feed chart daily, and follow the grain and supplement instructions as shown
  • Feed and water all equines (this includes the water buckets inside their stalls, as well as the troughs outside in their lots)
  • Clean stall beds daily and replace bedding as necessary
  • Sweep barn aisle once feeding is done, the equines are back outside, and stalls have been cleaned
  • Empty all muck buckets
  • Clean up manure in lots During either the AM or PM feed shift, you are given one additional hour dedicated to clean the dry lots. You are not expected to clean ALL lots, just as much as you can get done. You can decide which feed shift to do so.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of feed cart and feed room
  • Inspect equines for general health and soundness and report any concerns to supervisor
  • Administer medication when necessary and when instructed to do so by the Equine Manager.
Qualifications & Required Skills
  • Maintain a high standard of excellence by ensuring a neat, clean, organized, and safe environment for both equines and people.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with Agape staff, particularly direct supervisors, as well as any volunteers signed up to assist you.
  • Demonstrate reliability and trustworthiness.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and a mindset of customer service and above-reproach stewardship.
  • Have a calm, confident demeanor around equines
  • Have physical ability to lift hay bales
  • Comfortable working indoor and outdoor in any and all weather conditions
