Overview

In accordance with education-based athletics, Assistant Coaches will work with Head Coaches to develop an effective coaching program plan, including skill development, practice planning, supervision of all levels of the sport, focusing on individual and team growth while instilling the highest ideals of character. Assistant Coaches will effectively communicate with Head Coaches, student-athletes, parents, and administration.

Job Description

• Terms of Employment: 12-month
• Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Education and Work Experience

• Teachers or certificated professional educators employed by the local Board of Education.
• Persons certifiable as professional educators by the State Department of Education according to 13A.12.01.
• Credentialed Coaches meeting the following:
• Eligible to hold a Maryland certificate under COMAR 13A.12.01.
• Possess a MPSSAA/MSDE Coaching Certification.
• Completed two years of successful coaching as an emergency coach.
• Spent the previous year as a successful emergency coach at the school of hire.

Essential Job Functions

• Adhere to policies in the Charles County Public Schools Extra-Curricular Handbook regarding athletics and organization sponsorship.
• Assist with pre-season meetings and report directly to the head coach.
• Set an example of good moral and physical behavior.
• Make recommendations for improvements and equipment.
• Prepare for practices, secure facilities, and supervise all activities.
• Teach fundamentals, promote sportsmanship, and enforce rules.
• Maintain equipment, ensure player eligibility, and assist with team records and honors.
• Attend meetings, clinics, and assist with budget planning.

Environmental Factors & Physical Requirements

The position requires ambulatory skills, ability to stand, walk, kneel, manipulate weights of 10-50 pounds, good hand-eye coordination, and visual acuity for keyboard use. Frequent sitting, reaching, talking, and hearing are also required.
