Job description

General Purpose:

The dispatcher is responsible for scheduling drivers to cover all farm pickup routes and scheduled deliveries.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct the daily distribution of raw milk loads to cover orders, maintain customer schedules, and monitor for changes.
  • Contact drivers with daily delivery schedules.
  • Serve as contact for all customer changes and distressed loads.
  • Monitor milk movements to assure all producers remain qualified during qualifying months and between Federal Orders. Maximize diversions and transportation credits where applicable.
  • Monitor secondary freight costs and work to minimize those costs when scheduling deliveries. Coordinate dispatching and maintain records of all loadouts.
  • Communicate customer issues to Field Manager. Communicate driver issues to Lead Dispatcher and Location Manager.
  • Be part of on-call rotation including periodic evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • One or more years of experience in dairy industry preferred.
  • High School diploma.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent telephone, problem-solving, and people skills.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Good computer skills including MS Office software (Excel, Word).
  • Experience with SAP business software a plus.
  • Ability to switch between tasks frequently.
  • Answer general questions and direct callers to appropriate people.
  • Friendly and polite voice and demeanor.
  • Ability to operate in a team environment by communicating effectively.
  • Moderate level of mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid driver’s license with no significant violations or restrictions.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
