Job description

Opportunity Overview

Summit Educational Group, a Guidewell Education brand, is immediately hiring caring, expert, part-time In-Person Tutors for SAT, ACT, and SSAT/ISEE test preparation in Metro West, MA, including the surrounding suburbs to the north, west, and south.

If you are a teacher, a teacher’s assistant, or have experience working with middle school or high school students—or have highly transferable skills from a background in Research, Engineering, Law, Consulting, Training, or Instructional Design—we encourage you to apply.

While our tutors work across all grade levels, we are placing a special priority this hiring cycle on tutors who enjoy working with middle school students preparing for the SSAT and ISEE to gain admission to independent schools. Because these students test in the late fall, preparation begins in August/September, with peak tutoring taking place in October and November. You will be fully trained on SSAT/ISEE test prep strategies during your paid onboarding process!

We don’t just teach tests—we calmly, caringly, and expertly guide students to build confidence, develop strong study habits, and become better learners for life. Join us in making a meaningful impact!

What You’ll Be Doing: Responsibilities
  • Deliver one-on-one, in-person tutoring for SAT/ACT prep, SSAT/ISEE prep, and/or high school academic subjects.
    • Prioritize middle school SSAT/ISEE students during the peak fall and winter admissions season, with tutoring demand increasing in late summer and peaking from October through January.
  • Travel reliably to students’ homes within a 30-45 minute radius of your location (primarily between Newton and Lexington)
  • Tailor lesson plans based on students’ individual goals, learning styles, and mock test results.
  • Maintain open, clear communication with students, families, and the Summit team.
  • Timely completion of session reports and scheduling updates.
  • Participate in required paid training and professional development.
Why Choose Summit? Compensation & Benefits
  • Compensation: $45/hr for in-person | wage: $35/hr for online | wage: $60/hr for classes
  • Tax-Free Travel Reimbursement: We provide the current IRS rate for non-taxed travel to and from sessions.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Set your own part-time hours, primarily during after-school and weekend times.
  • Self-Selected Student Matches: Collaborate with students whose schedules and locations align with yours.
  • Comprehensive Support: Access to proprietary Summit curriculum, expert training, and full-time staff support.
  • Career Growth: Priority access to new job openings across the Guidewell Education network.
Requirements
  • Education: A Completed Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Content Mastery: Strong academic background and content mastery in tutoring subjects, demonstrated by a passing score on our short pre-interview SAT/ACT content quiz.
  • Availability: Willingness to tutor during after-school hours and weekends.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation for consistent in-person sessions.
  • Passion for Mentorship: A genuine commitment to helping students succeed and confidence in your ability to be a mentor.
Preferred Experience & Skills

We strongly encourage applicants with:

  • Experience working with middle school students (or students younger than high school age) in a teaching, tutoring, camp, or mentorship capacity.
  • Enthusiasm for learning SSAT/ISEE test prep strategies during initial paid training and prioritizing these students during their fall testing cycle.
  • Classroom Teaching Experience.
  • Professional Backgrounds with strong analytical and communication skills (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Data Science, Engineering).
  • Familiarity with independent school admissions processes or entrance exams (a plus, but not required).

As a Guidewell Education brand, we’re guided by a mission to deliver transformational educational experiences that support students as whole people. The core values that shape this mission and our work together as colleagues are: student-centered, empathetic, expert practitioners, and growth-oriented.
