Job Description: The Drexel Product Development Engineer Co-op will work in the Surgeon Response Group (SRG), within the Research and Development (R&D) organization. We are located in West Chester, PA.

Our mission in SRG is to support the hospitals and surgeons who use our product every single day. This co-op role is focused on the development of new, customized medical devices based on a request from a surgeon. This specific Co-op will provide opportunities to engage with customers to design and develop new instrumentation for orthopedic procedures.

Are you mechanically inclined? This position allows you to own the project’s entire engineering development lifecycle, from conceptual designs, to crafting rapid prototypes, to releasing the finished good. Problem solving and a deep understanding of patient and surgeon needs is essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop multiple medical devices and all supporting activities.
  • Participate in all aspects of the design process, including regulatory needs, developing design specifications, mitigating product risks, and building the engineering design history file.
  • Independently own individual instrument design projects aiming to release 8+ new instruments.
  • Utilize Creo parametric CAD to produce 3D models and drawings according to company standards.
  • Support projects across multiple disciplines and procedures for DePuySynthes Trauma/CMF.
  • Collaborate with sales, surgeons, R&D Engineers, Manufacturing Engineering, and Design Quality teams.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 required.

Experience and Skills:

  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required.
  • Strong CAD experience (Pro-E, Creo, Solidworks, etc.) preferred.
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S. without future sponsorship requirements.
