Position Title: Sr. Windows Server / VMware Administrator
Location: Suffolk, VA
Clearance Requirements: Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance
Position Status: Contract-to-Hire (C2H)
Pay Rate: Competitive; commensurate with experience

Position Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Windows Server / VMware Administrator to support, secure, and optimize enterprise server infrastructure in a DoD-regulated environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on infrastructure professional who thrives in mission-critical environments and brings deep experience with Windows Server, VMware virtualization, and DoD security compliance.

The selected candidate will play a key role in ensuring system availability, performance, and cybersecurity compliance while collaborating closely with cybersecurity and network teams.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 environments
• Manage Active Directory, Group Policy (GPO), DNS, and core Windows services
• Support VMware vSphere infrastructure, including vCenter Server and ESXi hosts
• Oversee virtual machine lifecycle management, performance tuning, and availability
• Apply and maintain DoD STIGs for Windows and VMware systems
• Perform vulnerability scanning and remediation using ACAS / Nessus
• Manage server patching and updates using WSUS or enterprise patching tools
• Develop and maintain PowerShell automation for administrative and security tasks
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot infrastructure issues
• Collaborate with cybersecurity and network teams to ensure secure, compliant operations

Required Skills / Education

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field OR 5+ years of equivalent professional experience
• Proven experience administering Windows Server environments
• Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere / vCenter
• Experience supporting systems in DoD or classified environments
• Active Secret or Top Secret clearance
• IAT Level II certification, one of the following:
• Security+
• CySA+
• CCNA Security
• GSEC
• GICSP
• SSCP

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), MCSE: Core Infrastructure, or CISSP
• Strong proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation
• In-depth knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies, RMF, and STIG implementation
• Experience with enterprise backup and storage solutions
