Job summary

Taco, Inc. is seeking a Senior Welder B to join our production team. The role involves welding nozzles and fittings to tanks and heat exchanger shells, using FCAW and GMAW, with or without backing, under WPS parameters.

Work is on a production floor on-site in Texas. Candidates must have 2+ years of welding experience, read drawings, and follow ASME IX tests. Excellent safety and teamwork are essential to success.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass ASME Section IX welding tests: FCAW/GMAW and SAW with various material combos.
  • 2+ years welding experience using drawings, specs, charts, and equipment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and apply to work.
  • Ability to navigate the company ERP system for data access.
  • Must stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to manage time to meet deadlines and volume.
  • Must interpret Welding Procedure Specifications and maintain quality.

Responsibilities

  • Works independently using drawings, specs, WPS and instructions.
  • Uses various welding equipment and hand/power tools.
  • Performs FCAW/GMAW welding on tanks and heat exchangers, flat and horizontal positions.
  • Reads drawings and performs layouts.
  • With supervision, may perform more complex welding tasks.
  • Interprets WPS and ensures parameters are followed.
  • Monitors quality and reports issues to supervisor.
  • Keeps records and follows safety regulations.

Position Summary:

The Senior Welder B performs a variety of routine welding duties. They typically weld nozzles and fittings to tanks and heat exchanger shells and will fit up nozzles or similar components on standard products using jigs and fixtures. This role welds using gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and flux cored arc welding (FCAW) processes on fillet joints and groove joints with or without backing.

Measures of Success
  • Full understanding of relevant Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and the ability to follow all parameters within.
  • Timely completion of all welding operations within the operational time limits and according to company quality protocols.
  • Capability of welding fillet and groove welds without backing in both the horizontal and flat positions.
Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Works mostly independently using drawings, specifications, WPS and verbal instructions.
  • Uses various types of welding equipment and a variety of common hand and power tools.
  • Performs standardized final welding operations and fit up work using fixtures and jigs to weld tanks and heat exchangers primarily using the FCAW/GMAW welding process, with or without backing, in the flat and horizontal positions.
  • Read and interpret basic drawings and perform simple layouts.
  • With assistance and supervision, may perform more complicated welding using various equipment.
  • Reads appropriate Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and is capable of interpreting welding variables and assures that all parameters within the WPS are adhered to.
  • Monitors quality of work, makes corrective adjustments and reports equipment malfunctions, defective materials or other unusual conditions to supervisor.
  • Maintains necessary records, completes transactions within the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and accesses company intranet as needed for work instructions.
  • Maintains work area in neat, clean, and orderly condition and observes all safety regulations and practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to pass American Society of Mechanical Engineers ( ASME ) Section IX welding test s with the following variables:
    • FCAW/GMAW and SAW processes
    • Steel-steel, steel-stainless, stainless-stainless material
    • Flat, horizontal and vertical positions
    • With or without backing
  • 2+ years of welding experience using drawings, specifications, charts and welding equipment
  • Ability to foll ow verbal and written instructions and effectively apply to assigned work
  • Ability to navigate multiple windows in company ERP system to access production and resource data
  • Ability to perform repetitive work requiring constant alertness or activity, and including standing and lifting
  • Ability to manage time effectively to meet strict time deadlines and production volumes
  • Requires judgment to comply with instructions, prescribed routines, methods and practices

Preferred

  • Graduate of a welding and fabrication vocational or technical training program
  • Experience welding in a pressure vessel fabrication shop

This position works primarily in a production floor environment where large equipment and noise are prevalent. Safety gear is required in these areas.

This position reports into the site every day.

This position has no direct reports.
