Sr. Vascular Interventional Radiology Technologist

Department/Unit: Vascular Radiology | Work Shift: Day (United States of America) | Salary Range: $84,783.00 - $131,414.00

The Sr. VIR Technologist under the direction of the Medical Director, manager, and physicians plays a key role in providing quality care to patients requiring a wide variety of procedural services. The technologist works collaboratively with all members of the team to create diagnostic images, engage in hands‑on participation as a procedural assistant, and develop relationships with staff and patients to provide a safe and positive experience.

Responsibilities
  • Patient Care:
    • Educate patients about the purpose and type of test or procedure.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for patient age and special characteristics.
    • Review medical history (medications, allergies, lab values, etc.) prior to starting a procedure.
    • Confirm informed consent has been obtained before starting a procedure.
    • Provide good customer service skills and quality care.
    • On‑call responsibilities with a 30‑minute response time for Neuro, CCP, and Vascular surgery services.
  • Procedural Assistance:
    • Verify order for a procedure has been obtained.
    • Set up and maintain sterile tray and environment.
    • Administer contrast media with appropriate protocols.
    • Practice radiation protection and safety (ALARA guidelines).
    • Perform sterile prep of patients for various procedures.
    • Assist physicians in all aspects of complex procedures in assigned area (sterile scrub).
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    • Maintain equipment for safe, accurate function and patient comfort (include cleaning).
    • Refer equipment problems to appropriate personnel.
    • Enter patient data, charges, and supplies accurately into system.
    • Assist in stocking adequate supplies.
    • Support AMCH and imaging department in maintaining proper accreditations.
  • General Responsibilities:
    • Practice in compliance with hospital, department policy, New York state and accrediting agency standards.
    • Plan and accomplish goals using experience and judgment.
    • Act as mentor and preceptor to new staff and students.
    • Engage in research procedures/protocols.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Applied Science (required).
  • Graduate of approved professional academic imaging program (required).
  • At least 3 years’ experience.
  • Knowledge of operation of all IR and OR hybrid procedure rooms (AMC has 5 IR rooms, 1 hybrid OR, 2 bi‑plane rooms).
  • Proficiency with supplies used for IR procedures (>900 inventory items, >300 non‑stock items).
  • Knowledge of supplies used for AAA repair and bypass procedures (stent grafts). Understanding compatibility to ensure patient safety.
  • Knowledge of complex cases including peripheral arterial disease, portal hypertension, cancer, DVT & PE, trauma, aortic aneurysms, dialysis interventions, neurointervention.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to engage multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong documentation skills; data entry accuracy.
  • Ability to adhere to AMC policies and procedures.
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve problems ensuring continuity of patient care.
  • Ability to improve job performance through continuing education.
Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Restricted Cardio Vascular (ARDMS or ARRT) – Cardiovascular.
  • New York State Registration in Diagnostic Radiography or limited permit to practice in New York.
  • Heartsaver First Aid, CPR, AED Professional Rescuer certification.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.
