Job description

The Senior VIP Structures Mechanic is responsible for maintenance, modification, and repair of aircraft interior support structures. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings and technical orders to perform precision drilling, reaming, installation, sealing, and preservation tasks in accordance with safety and quality standards. The Senior VIP Structures Mechanic collaborates with engineering and production teams to ensure structural integrity, compliance with regulatory requirements, and timely completion of work orders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation to critical support structures and fracture critical areas.
  • Locates blind holes necessary for installation of new structural items to existing structure.
  • Perform efforts associated with sealing, painting, shimming, and preserving structure in accordance with standard repair processes.
  • May assist Leads with planning, production, and quality assurance of assigned projects.
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings, technical orders, process specification, and retrofit requirements to perform structural modifications and repairs.
  • Uses tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot level modification and repair of structural parts.
  • Knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repairprocedures and replacement of components
  • Knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair.
  • Determines functionality of basic electrical systems
  • Knowledge of aircraft tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.
  • Accesses aircraft data via computer systems and initiate on-line parts and discrepancy requests.
  • Maintains necessary certifications, licenses, and permits as required for assigned work.
  • Ensures working environment is deemed safe for access and job task performanceviaHazardous Energy and Lock Out /Tag systems applications.

Summary of Education, Experience & Certification

High school diploma or equivalent required. At least five years’ experience performing aircraft structural repairs and modifications required. Experience with Interior Structures Installation or modifications preferred. Experience with Executive Fleet aircraft maintenance and operations preferred.

Due to government regulations and contract specifications, we are required to fill this position only with an individual who qualifies as a U.S. Citizen.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work with non-porous metals, such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless.
  • Ability to work with schematics, specifications, assembly drawings and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to use structures hand tools, including 45- and 90-degree drills, pancake adapters, counter sink cages, hole finders, and rivet guns.
  • Ability to work heavy structures: locating, drilling, countersinking, and fastening structures (doublers, stringers, webs, seat tracks, etc.) to aircraft.
  • Ability to work variable shifts (i.e. scheduled and unscheduled overtime; weekends and holidays) to support program requirements and workload.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, mobile crane, and riding type electric powered elevating equipment to accomplish work assignment.
  • Able to comply with DOT/FAA Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
  • Ability to communicate in English (read, write, and verbally communicate).
  • Mathematical knowledge and ability to apply towards problem solving.
  • Able to climb and work on step stools and/or ladders.
  • Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance and ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to reach overhead.
  • Ability to work in a non-dust-free environment.
  • Normal or corrected vision (required to perform exacting tasks).
  • Full range of motion with both hands.
  • Ability to work in a stooping, kneeling or standing position and in cramped areas.
