Job description

Job ID: 2822882 | Amazon.com Services LLC

The Amazon Devices research team seeks a thoughtful, creative, and passionate Sr. User Researcher to help us define how Amazon Devices customers discover, learn about, purchase, and use their devices. We are looking for someone who can think strategically, uncover customer needs, and translate them into actionable ideas that can inform product vision. Our product, marketing, and engineering partners are eager to hear the insights our team produces. We directly influence the design of new programs that impact the business and customer experience.

As an ideal candidate, you have a deep understanding of traditional user research methods and best practices. You also have a nimble, creative, and pragmatic approach to designing and executing research; you're also interested in pushing the boundaries of agile research. You are a passionate researcher with uncanny observational and analytical skills, an impressive ability to collaborate with other teams and designers, and a relentless determination to do what is right for Amazon's customers. You work with minimal direction and move quickly while delivering high-quality outputs. You will work on overlapping projects, so skill in multi-tasking, juggling competing priorities, and organizing your workload are essential.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Partner with UX and product teams to identify research opportunities and prioritize research questions based on analysis of current knowledge, project goals, and risks.
  2. Own all aspects of the user research and the product development lifecycle (methodology/study design, recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting, communicating, budgeting research) and consulting on which user research methodology approaches work, and which don’t.
  3. Communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  4. Work closely with interaction designers and design technologists to drive effective user research.
  5. Use best practices to create long-term research roadmaps and opportunity frameworks that align to and inform business strategy and goals.
  6. Apply front-end user research skills to deliver on actionable user insights for partner teams.
  7. Drive impact to the business and customer experience, as measured by changes to the design and development roadmap.

A day in the life
Our teams move fast and iterates often, and you will be moving quickly with them – but you'll also have time to zoom out and ask the big questions that change the course of these programs or inspire us to build entirely new ones. You will work with UX Designers and Design Technologists to help guide the design and prototyping of new features or programs to test with users ahead of the development schedule. You will also regularly interact with product managers, engineers, and marketing specialists to understand and guide the team’s research needs, including designing and conducting research activities.

We are a multi-disciplinary team of designers, researchers, and technologists that can envision, create, and execute ideas from start to end. We strongly believe in a collaborative team culture and encourage cross-team partnership and bonding to drive innovation and maintain a safe community.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. End-to-end experience with all aspects of research (study design, moderation, analysis, reporting).
