Job summary

Symetra is seeking a Senior Life Underwriter in the Life Underwriting Department to deliver thoughtful underwriting decisions and assess risks within guidelines. You will partner with Medical Directors and peers to navigate complex cases, communicate decisions clearly, and build trusted relationships with internal partners and distribution teams.

This remote-friendly role requires strong underwriting judgment, mentoring abilities, and the willingness to travel periodically to support leadership

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Life underwriting experience.
• Strong underwriting judgment, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
• Experience coaching and mentoring others is a plus.
• Organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
• Clear, confident communicator who builds trust and collaborates effectively.
• Willingness and ability to travel periodically for business needs.

Responsibilities

• Review individual life insurance applications and underwrite risks within authorized limits.
• Assess medical and non-medical risk in alignment with company guidelines to deliver the best offer upfront.
• Partner with Medical Directors, Underwriting Leadership, and peers on complex cases.
• Communicate underwriting decisions clearly with internal partners and distribution teams.
• Build trusted relationships to support long-term growth and mutual success.
• Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes and customer experience.
• Stay current on industry trends and participate in team initiatives.
