Sr Underwriter, Business Development - Surety (Large Commercial)

This position is based in the Chicagoland area with a hybrid/work from home arrangement.

Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Surety Underwriter to manage and grow profitable surety business. The role involves market analysis, risk assessment, agency relationship management, and business development to meet financial and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor market conditions and analyze risks to inform underwriting decisions.
  • Evaluate complex risk exposures and financial documents to ensure profitability.
  • Manage workflow for complex accounts, ensuring adherence to standards and efficiency.
  • Develop and execute business plans with agency partners to achieve production goals.
  • Market surety products, develop new business, and maintain strong agency relationships.
  • Consult with agents and internal teams to resolve issues and optimize relationships.
  • Conduct agency visits to foster relationships and review performance.
  • Lead customer service initiatives and ensure high service levels.
  • Identify training needs and mentor team members as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in business or related field preferred.
  • Five years of surety underwriting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of surety underwriting practices, policies, and strategic direction.
  • Strong interpersonal, sales, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and decision-making skills.
Additional Information

Other criteria such as leadership skills and competencies may take precedence. Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel extensively.

Salary range: $75,500 - $156,000, with an expected starting range of $84,000 - $126,000.
