Job Description - Sr. Underwriter/AVP, Casualty Reinsurance (2500001E)

Job Objectives:

Responsible for underwriting a reinsurance portfolio for Casualty and Professional Liability lines of business by employing the methods described within the Global Reinsurance Underwriting Guidelines and Business Unit Underwriting Guidelines. Responsibilities include underwriting reinsurance submissions, marketing to brokers and clients, performing underwriting audits, interacting internally with Actuarial, Legal and Claims staffs as necessary to meet projected profitability, GWP, and expense goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize and evaluate treaty submissions to identify those treaties and structures that provide opportunity for profit consistent with the business plan.
  • Work with actuarial team to determine the optimal price and structure for new and renewal treaty business.
  • Manage and develop broker and client relationships.
  • Negotiate treaty terms, conditions and participations with brokers and clients.
  • Review contracts to ensure wordings comply with underwriting guidelines and reflect intended terms and conditions.
  • Coordinate underwriting activities with Claims, Accounting and Legal departments as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting and administrative guidelines and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Accounting, Finance or Risk Management
  • Insurance industry designations such as CPCU, ARe, RPLU
  • 2-5 years underwriting experience.
  • Excellent negotiation and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside normal office hours and travel as required.

Compensation:

The below annualized base pay range is a broad range based on analysis of similar positions in the market. The actual base pay for the position may be above or below the listed range and determined by a number of considerations, including but not limited to complexity, location, and scope of the role, along with experience, skills, education, training, and other conditions of employment. Base salary represents one compensation of Allied World comprehensive total reward package, which may also include annual incentive compensation rewards.
