Job summary

ATC in Wisconsin is seeking a Sr. Transmission Line Services Engineer who combines transmission line expertise with a customer-service mindset to support engineering, construction and maintenance, ensuring safe, cost-effective, reliable assets for communities we serve.

You will lead standards efforts, advise on design and performance, coordinate with vendors and internal teams, and drive continuous improvement to strengthen grid resilience and project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in transmission line engineering, design, standards development, asset management, or related utility engineering functions.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry standards (NESC, IEEE, NERC, ASCE, and RUS guidance).
  • Experience collaborating with engineering consultants, contractors, equipment vendors, and internal stakeholders to develop practical and cost-effective solutions.
  • Clear, structured communicator with collaborative teamwork and strong follow-through.

  • Provide timely support for engineering, construction, and maintenance teams; translate findings into actionable recommendations.

Summary of Responsibilities

Bring your positive energy to ATC! We’re looking for a Sr. Transmission Line Services Engineer who pairs transmission line knowledge with a customer service mindset. In this role, you’ll lead standards efforts, translate technical information into practical applications, and provide dependable support for engineering, construction and maintenance—helping ensure our assets remain safe, cost effective, and reliable for the communities we serve.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Drive standards excellence. Lead the creation and revision of transmission line design standards, template drawings, specifications, guides, and technical aids; gather input, build consensus, and communicate updates that elevate consistency and clarity.
  • Be a supporting resource. Provide timely support for engineering, construction, and maintenance teams; support problem solving and convert findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Advance our asset performance. Evaluate vendors and factory qualifications, partner with Asset Management and Supply Chain, and support development of pilots that introduce new technologies and provide long term value.
  • Champion continuous improvement. Identify process enhancements across engineering, procurement, and construction to boost quality, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Lead with stewardship and accountability. Take pride in the assets assigned to you by actively guiding standards, performance, condition assessment, risk management, and lifecycle strategies that support long‑term system reliability.
What you’ll bring
Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Licensure

Wisconsin and/or Michigan PE not required, but preferred.

Experience

5+ years of experience in transmission line engineering, design, standards development, asset management, or related utility engineering functions. Field, maintenance, or construction support experience is a plus.

Technical depth

Foundational knowledge in one or more areas of transmission line engineering, including foundations, transmission line structures, conductor systems, insulators, line hardware, grounding, clearances, or constructability and maintainability. Candidates are not expected to possess expertise in every discipline; however, demonstrated strength across multiple technical areas and the ability to grow into subject matter expert responsibilities supporting critical Transmission Line Services functions is highly valued.

Standards savvy

Familiarity with applicable industry standards and utility practices (e.g., NESC, IEEE, NERC, ASCE, and RUS guidance).

Consultant and vendor coordination

Experience collaborating with engineering consultants, contractors, equipment vendors, and internal stakeholders to develop practical and cost-effective solutions.

Professional strengths

The targeted base pay for this position is $119,500 to $139,400 annually.* Base pay is one component of our comprehensive total rewards package which includes an annual incentive bonus, employer-sponsored pension plan, 401(k) match, HSA contribution, life & disability insurance, health care benefits, generous time off plans, flexible work arrangements, and much more. *The pay range is a general guideline. Employment offers are evaluated individually and consider qualifications, experience, academic achievements, internal equity, and business needs.
