Job summary

Sapsf is seeking a Sr Tower Lead (Tools & Automation) to own and optimize the DASD and virtual tape storage estate for mainframe environments. You will drive design, migration, resiliency, and automation across GDPS, immutable copies, and cloud storage integration.

You will lead capacity planning, DR exercises, and cross-team collaboration with z/OS and DB tooling to ensure availability and performance. This is a senior role requiring deep mainframe storage experience.

Qualifications

• Experience in designing and configuring DASD storage subsystems and VTS environments.
• Proven ability to migrate storage architectures and implement GDPS-based resiliency.
• Familiarity with immutable/safeguarded copy configurations and ransomware protection.
• Strong knowledge of mainframe storage management and DR exercises.

Responsibilities

• Design and configure DASD and VTS/TS7700 environments and other OEM storage.
• Install and maintain storage software tools and consolidate/t decommission legacy tools.
• Migrate architectures between IBM DS8K and Hitachi/storage successors as needed.
• Configure GDPS replication for HA/DR and validate via exercises and testing.
• Implement immutable copy configurations and support LCP against data threats.
• Lead cloud tier integration and monitor capacity, tuning SMS policies and DFSMShsm.

The Mainframe Storage Admin owns the design, configuration, migration and ongoing optimization of the DASD and virtual tape storage estate, including GDPS-integrated resiliency and Logical Corruption Protection via immutable copies. The role also drives storage capacity optimization and integration with cloud storage tiers as part of broader modernization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and configure new DASD storage subsystems and Virtual Tape Server (VTS/TS7700) environments or other OEMs like Hitachi and Dell/EMC.
• Install, upgrade, decom and maintain Storage products like CA1-Tape Management, IBM TACM, CA Vantage etc. and tool consolidation along with decommission.
• Migrate the storage architecture from IBM DS8K to Hitachi or vice-versa.
• Configure and validate GDPS-integrated storage replication (e.g., Metro Mirror/PPRC, Global Mirror) for high availability and disaster recovery.
• Implement and manage immutable/Safeguarded Copy configurations to deliver Logical Corruption Protection (LCP) against ransomware and data corruption events.
• Participate in and help design high-availability and disaster recovery exercises, including planned/unplanned region-switch testing.
• Continuously monitor and optimize storage capacity utilization, including SMS policy tuning and DFSMShsm lifecycle management.
• Lead integration of mainframe storage with cloud storage tiers (e.g., Transparent Cloud Tiering) as part of hybrid storage strategies.
• Perform Proof-of-concept (POC) on Sandbox LPAR to build & test the use-cases using different vendor products which are found promising and establish the documentation proof of benefits realization after POC completion.
• Support storage-related audits, compliance reviews, and capacity forecasting for customer environments by analysing DCOLLECT & SMF Data.
• Partner with z/OS, Db2/IMS, and automation teams to ensure storage architecture aligns with overall platform resiliency goals.
