Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Technician in Livermore, CA to repair and maintain tractors, trailers, forklifts, and related equipment. You’ll perform diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and required rebuilds, ensuring safe operation and compliant documentation.

The role offers an hourly rate with a segment of premium pay for Master ASE certification, shift differentials, and tuition reimbursement for Diesel ASE certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience performing vehicle maintenance.
• Heavy-duty vehicle maintenance certificate may substitute for 1 year of experience.
• Master ASE certification may substitute for 2 years of experience.
• Competency in brakes, electrical, PMI, powertrain, and trailing equipment.
• Medium/Heavy Truck Master ASE Certification and Class A CDL preferred.
• Proficient with maintenance programs and diagnostic systems.
• Knowledge of gas/diesel engines and on-board computers.
• Experience with precision instruments and lifting devices.
• Valid driver’s license may be required.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and maintains fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, forklifts, and related equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and necessary replacements or rebuilds.
• Provide guidance to less-experienced technicians.
• Document maintenance work accurately in reports and systems.
• Conduct safety inspections and perform paint/body work as required.
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Handle additional assignments as needed.

POSITION OVERVIEW

To provide timely, quality, and cost-effective repair and maintenance for vehicle fleet including tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment that requires preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, modifications and repairs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Repairs, modifies and performs preventive maintenance inspections; troubleshoots fleet including tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment Performs advanced diagnostics to identify source of trouble and performs repairs and/or replaces or rebuilds all components and systems.
• Makes necessary adjustments to equipment for safe and efficient operation and prepares required safety documentation.
• Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced technicians.
• Ensures proper accurate documentation of all maintenance performed, completes reports in writing and electronically.
• Performs safety inspections of equipment and documents the work Performs paint and body work on vehicles, as required.
• Complies with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
• Performs other assignments (or duties) as required

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma (or GED), preferred
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience performing vehicle maintenance
• A heavy-duty vehicle maintenance certificate obtained from an accredited vehicle maintenance vocational/trade school may substitute for one year of vehicle maintenance experience
• A Master ASE certification may substitute for an additional two years of vehicle maintenance experience
• Demonstrated competency in repair and maintenance of Brakes, Electrical, PMI, Powertrain, and Trailing Equipment required
• Medium/Heavy Truck Master ASE Certification and Class A CDL preferred
• Must possess proficient computer skills including maintenance programs, and diagnostic systems
• Must possess in-depth knowledge of gas and diesel engines and on-board computers
• Experience using precision measurement instruments, oxygen/acetylene equipment, and lifting devices (bottle, floor, wheel, or transmission jacks, floor cranes, etc.)
• Able to frequently lift components weighing up to 110 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance from another person
• Must possess necessary tools to perform assigned tasks
• Valid driver’s license may be required depending on work assignment
• Ability to safely operate vehicles equipped with manual or automatic transmissions
• Ability to enter and exit the driver’s compartment of the truck and/or behind cab using normal available footholds and handholds
• Paint and body work experience preferred
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job

Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, diesel fumes and noise

May be required to drive service van to off-site locations and perform work

Exposure to climate conditions of the geographic area

Exposure to chemicals, oils, greases, paints, or other irritants

Hours may vary due to operational need

Pay

Hourly: $37.70 - $41.02
