Job summary

Solomon Page is seeking a Senior Technical Designer for a fast-growing multi-brand design and manufacturing company in New York City. The role focuses on women's knits and sweaters across several brands, with hands-on technical execution, cross-functional leadership, and factory communications.

You will lead fit sessions, mentor junior staff, manage sample flow, and partner with design, production, and merchandising to protect design intent and product integrity.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of technical design experience in apparel.
• Expert-level garment fit, construction, and grading.
• Extensive experience in women's apparel, including knits and wovens.

Job description

Our client is working on a Sr level Technical Designer with a top company in NYC. Lots of focus on sweaters for women's mainly for a few brands they have. Face paced, working with private label for retailers and brands, mass retail as well as better product, Will also work on wovens, but main focus is knits. We are seeking a Senior Technical Designer to join our fast-growing, multi-brand design and manufacturing company based in New York City. This is a unique opportunity for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset—someone who wants more than a traditional corporate role. You will play a critical role in shaping product, process, and team structure, with significant runway for growth and leadership, including the opportunity to build, mentor, and manage a growing technical design team. Our environment blends the scale of retail with the creativity of brand-building, working across multiple product categories, retailers, and talent-driven brands. This role requires someone who can move seamlessly between hands‑on technical execution, cross‑functional leadership, factory communication, and customer‑facing responsibilities.

• Full-time hours in midtown office. Salary at full time approximately $135-145K based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead the technical design process across multiple brands and product categories.
• Run and manage fit sessions end-to-end, making confident fit, construction, and technical decisions.
• Partner closely with Design, Production, and Merchandising teams to maintain product integrity and execute design intent.
• Communicate detailed fit comments, construction direction, specifications, and technical requirements to overseas factories.
• Interface with customers and retail partners on fit‑related communication, approvals, and technical requirements.
• Manage fit timelines and sample flow, ensuring samples are reviewed, commented on, revised, and approved on schedule.
• Work directly with fit model agencies to schedule and manage fittings.
• Attend and lead customer‑facing fittings when required.
• Utilize and maintain PLM systems, ensuring technical information is accurate, complete, and up to date.
• Oversee, mentor, and develop junior technical design team members.
• Help establish and improve technical standards, processes, and best practices across the organization.
• Proactively identify fit, construction, quality, or timeline issues and develop solutions before they impact delivery.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of Technical Design experience within apparel.
• Expert-level understanding of garment fit, construction, specifications, and grading.
• Extensive experience in Women’s apparel, including Wovens, Knits, Sweaters, and Outerwear.
• Working knowledge of Men’s and Kids categories a plus
• Plus Size fit experience is a strong plus.
• Proven ability to independently lead fittings and make confident fit and construction decisions.
• Strong experience communicating directly with overseas factories and sourcing partners.
• Experience working directly with retail customers is strongly preferred.
• Prior experience with PLM systems such as Centric, FlexPLM, or similar; training will be provided on proprietary systems.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple brands, categories, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous experience mentoring or managing junior team members is preferred.
