NOTE: This role will be required to work our corporate office in downtown Austin, TX three days a week. To be considered you must live in or relocate to the Austin, TX area.

Chubbies is seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Sr. Technical Designer.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Owns the fit process across multiple product categories (e.g., trunks, shorts, tops) for men and boys apparel
  • Leads fittings and adjusts tech packs/specs to maintain Chubbies’ signature fit
  • Coordinates fit model and manages fit budget
  • Ensures construction methods align with design intent and performance expectations
  • Creates and manages technical packages for all styles
  • Oversees measurement specs, maintains pattern libraries, and ensures grading standards are followed
  • Partners with factories to resolve issues and ensure accuracy
  • Partners closely with Design, Product Development, and Production teams
  • Collaborates with Merchants on seasonal changes or improvements
  • Communicates with vendors on corrections, fit approvals, and construction questions
  • Reviews samples and submits fit comments clearly to factories
  • Troubleshoots pattern or fit issues with factory technicians
  • May travel for on-site fit/production evaluations
  • Builds scalable fit and development processes
  • Leads initiatives to improve fit consistency and reduce sample rounds

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Production, Technical Design, or a related field
  • 6–8+ years of experience in technical design or garment engineering (men’s apparel preferred)
  • Experience working with offshore vendors and factories, including communicating fit comments and reviewing PPS/TOP samples
  • Expert knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, and grading
  • Strong technical skills in Adobe Illustrator, PLM systems/ 3D patternmaking systems
  • Deep understanding of body measurements, fit standards, and fabric behavior
  • Experience leading fit sessions and making real-time decisions with cross-functional partners
  • Strong ability to interpret and revise tech packs and BOMs
  • Knowledge of production timelines and how to optimize sample development
  • Excellent communication skills—especially in relaying technical fit feedback to factories
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration with Design, Product Development, and Sourcing
