Job summary

The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) in Washington, DC, seeks a Senior Surgical Tech to join the surgical team. You will help maintain a sterile field, pass instruments, and support cardiac procedures in a high-acuity setting.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of cardiac surgical tech experience and current CST certification, with BLS. This role offers an on-site working environment and opportunities for professional development within UHS family hospitals.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
• Minimum 2 years of recent surgical tech experience, with experience in open heart or cardiac surgery required.
• BLS (AHA-certified)

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the sterile operating field
• Assist surgeons during cardiac procedures by passing instruments and anticipating needs
• Operate and troubleshoot specialized surgical equipment
• Ensure proper handling and accountability of surgical instruments and supplies
• Support and mentor junior surgical techs and assist with staff training
• Strictly adhere to infection control and patient safety protocols
• Document procedures and maintain accurate records

Senior Surgical Tech Role

As a Senior Surgical Tech you will play a vital role on the surgical team, assisting with complex cardiac procedures. You will ensure a sterile field, manage specialized instruments, and support the surgical team before, during, and after operations. Your experience and leadership will contribute to safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical outcomes in a high-acuity setting.

Main Tasks
