Job summary

The George Washington University Hospital is seeking a Senior Surgical Tech to support the cardiac surgical team in a high-acuity environment. You will help maintain a sterile field, pass instruments, and assist with complex procedures under the leadership of the surgical team.

Ideal candidates have CST certification, 2+ years of cardiac surgery experience, and BLS. Join a team dedicated to quality care, patient safety, and ongoing staff development at GW Hospital.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
• Minimum 2 years of recent surgical tech experience, with experience in open heart or cardiac surgery.
• BLS (AHA-certified) required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the sterile operating field.
• Assist surgeons during cardiac procedures by passing instruments and anticipating needs.
• Operate and troubleshoot specialized surgical equipment.
• Ensure proper handling and accountability of surgical instruments and supplies.
• Support and mentor junior surgical techs and assist with staff training.
• Strictly adhere to infection control and patient safety protocols.
• Document procedures and maintain accurate records.

Senior Surgical Tech Role
As a Senior Surgical Tech you will play a vital role on the surgical team, assisting with complex cardiac procedures. You will ensure a sterile field, manage specialized instruments, and support the surgical team before, during, and after operations. Your experience and leadership will contribute to safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical outcomes in a high-acuity setting.
