Job summary

Sierra Nevada Corporation is seeking an experienced security engineer to design and implement secure IT infrastructure, monitor threats, and lead incident response efforts. The role demands deep cybersecurity expertise and active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility, integrated within a hybrid office environment.

Responsibilities include risk assessments, developing security controls, and mentoring junior engineers, with travel as needed and a strong focus on DoD and national security

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a security or engineering discipline with 8+ years in IT security or related field
  • Experience can substitute for education, or 12 years of related experience if no degree
  • Expert understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices
  • Experience with security frameworks and standards such as NIST and ISO 27001
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility required

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and implementation of secure IT infrastructure.
  • Perform advanced security monitoring and threat analysis.
  • Direct and manage complex incident response and digital forensics.
  • Conduct in-depth risk and vulnerability assessments.
  • Develop and enforce comprehensive security controls and protocols.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new security technologies.
  • Oversee security breach documentation and impact analysis.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior security engineers.
  • Build and harden Windows virtual machines, Active Directory domains, and hypervisors using strict security baselines and best practices.
  • Maintain the security of the Active Directory forest, including managing trust relationships, domain controllers, and certificate services (PKI).
  • Create, test, and deploy strict Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce security settings across all Windows servers and workstations.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Security, Network Engineering, Information Technology, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in IT security or a related field.
  • Relevant experience can be considered as a substitute for the required educational qualifications.
  • In the absence of a degree, a minimum of 12 years of related experience is required.
  • Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Expert understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices.
  • Experience with security frameworks and standards such as National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), ISO 27001.
  • Current/Active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Information Systems Security Engineer Certified Authorization Professional (ISSE CAP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) Certification.
  • Information System Security Officer (ISSO) Security+, Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+) Certification.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Linux, and/or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Security Certification.
  • Experience with security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and antivirus software.
  • Experience in the aerospace or defense industry.
Essential Functions
  • Ability to work primarily at a computer for extended periods.
  • Capability to participate in on-call rotation for incident response.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to work in an office or hybrid environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Estimated Starting Salary Range

$143,487.14 - $197,294.82.

Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors, such as candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
