Job summary

Sierra Nevada Corporation in Plano, TX seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to lead requirements engineering, systems integration, V&V, and MBSE across complex programs. You will guide architecture decisions, manage technical risk, and mentor teams to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery.

Required are 10+ years in systems engineering, a related bachelor's degree, and strong leadership with hardware/software integration experience.

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will exhibit expert-level skills in requirements engineering, systems integration, Verification & Validation (V&V), and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). You will oversee and lead complex system and decision analysis, technical planning, and risk management activities. You will be responsible for major project deliverables, leveraging deep knowledge in architecture/design development, technical monitoring, and lifecycle management. Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills are vital as you influence project direction, mentor team members, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.


Responsibilities:


  • Exhibit expert-level skills in requirements engineering, systems integration, V&V, and MBSE.

  • Oversee and lead complex system and decision analysis, technical planning, and risk management activities.

  • Analyze and review Software Architectures to meet system and hardware level requirements.

  • Understand different Software Architectures and be able to modify, recommend, and correct proposed Architectures for a \"best fit\" approach at a minimal cost.

  • Manage major project deliverables and ensure alignment with organizational goals.

  • Leverage deep knowledge in architecture/design development, technical monitoring, and lifecycle management.

  • Provide strong leadership and effective communication.

  • Mentor and guide team members.


Qualifications You Must Have:


  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering or related field.

  • Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.

  • Expert proficiency with Systems modeling and simulation tools.

  • Proven leadership experience in systems engineering.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of multiple Engineering principles and practices.

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.

  • Thorough understanding of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and V&V principles.

  • Experience with software testing best practices

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Strong configuration management skills

  • Experience with Windows Active Directory

  • Experience with Virtual Machines, containers, and hypervisors

  • Working knowledge of software concepts, including programming languages, software architecture, and development methodologies

  • Background in hardware and software integration in lab or operational environment

  • Experience working with subcontractors/vendors during development and delivery of a product


Qualifications We Prefer:


  • Extensive background in assessing and addressing Aerospace and Defense System Complexity and System Integration challenges

  • Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team through system baseline definition and maturation exercises in a complex development setting

  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM)

  • Thorough understanding of establishing, tracking, and addressing key programmatic risks

  • Experience creating and executing regression test / acceptance test for hardware and software

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, BOMs, and specifications

  • Previous Experiences with authoring CDRS and SDRL deliverables


Essential Functions:


  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.

  • Hand/finger dexterity for system modeling and documentation.

  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment with occasional travel.
