Job summary

Gentex Corporation seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to provide strategic technical leadership from concept to launch, with hands-on ownership. Strong acoustics or PPE experience is preferred.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams and interact with end users and program offices to shape real-world requirements. The role requires 7–10 years in systems/electrical/acoustic engineering, with knowledge of MIL-STD standards and MATLAB, project tools and production transitions.

• Advanced degree in Systems, Electrical, or Acoustic Engineering a plus.
• 7–10 years of experience in Systems, Electrical, or Acoustic Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical input in a project team environment for new product development.
• Lead tasks including system requirements, architecture and design, preliminary and critical design.
• Oversee system integration, verification, validation, and fielding support.
• Evaluate and develop electro-mechanical architectures for functional allocation (acoustic).
• Provide engineering support to manufacturing during product transitions.
• Prepare and present technical briefings to peers, management, and customers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):

• BS Degree in Engineering or Physics required
• Advanced Degree in Systems, Electrical, or Acoustic Engineering a plus

EXPERIENCE:

• 7-10 years of experience in Systems, Electrical, or Acoustic Engineering
• Experience leading a new product development team
• Experience with military programs, products and requirements
• Experience in taking products from concept to production

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Technical breadth to understand electrical, mechanical, acoustic, and signal processing to lead development team as it pertains to system requirements and specifications
• Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams including Electrical, Mechanical, and Acoustic through the product development life cycle
• Demonstrated experience architecting and designing products in a production focused capacity
• Comfortable in an outward facing role working directly with end users and program office to understand voice of customer and shape requirements around real world use cases.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD for both ground and air requirements desired, i.e. MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461
• Analytical modeling tools such as MATLAB and other tools such as MS office Project, Excel, and Visio
• Pro-actively drive programs forward to meet technical requirements and timelines
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong leadership and mentoring abilities

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

• Experience working with passive and active hearing protection devices preferred
• Understanding of NPD process, Quality SOP’s, test and measurement/analysis techniques a plus

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide technical input in a project team environment for various new product development efforts.
• Lead development tasks including system requirements, system architecture and design, preliminary design, critical design, system integration, formal verification, formal validation, and fielding support.
• Evaluate and develop electro-mechanical system architectures for functional allocation in complex products(acoustic)
• Provide project support to resolve issues, reduce program risk, and facilitate the delivery of quality products to our customers
• Prepare and present technical briefings to peers, management, and customer community.
• Align key stakeholders on system requirements and technology constraints and decompose and allocate system requirements.
• Provide engineering support to manufacturing and production when involved with transition of products into the manufacturing environment
• Schedule flexibility to support critical deadlines may be required.
