Job summary

Glidewell-Laboratories in Irvine, CA seeks a senior systems engineer to manage enterprise server, storage, and hyperconverged infrastructure. You will architect and operate Nutanix AHV/Prism environments and lead automation efforts using Ansible, PowerShell, and Python, while maintaining IaC and runbooks.

You will maintain backups and DR plans with Veeam, Rubrik, or Commvault, mentor staff, and provide on-call support to keep systems running smoothly.

Qualifications

• Working Python experience for automation and tooling.

Job description

Essential Functions:

• Analyzes, architects, designs, configures, installs, and manages enterprise server, storage, and hyperconverged infrastructure.
• Administers the Nutanix environment end to end, including AHV clusters, Prism Central and Prism Element, node and cluster expansion, AOS and LCM upgrades, Nutanix Files and Objects, and capacity planning.
• Maintains up to date knowledge of server, storage, and hypervisor vendor technologies and associated software.
• Engages in technical administration of physical and virtual servers running Windows Server and Linux, along with clusters, load balancers, and out of band management.
• Designs and maintains automation for provisioning, patching, configuration, and remediation using Ansible Automation Platform (Ansible Tower), PowerShell, and Python. Treats manual, repeatable work as a defect to be automated.
• Writes, reviews, and maintains infrastructure as code and playbooks in source control, with peer review and version history.
• Configures, monitors, and troubleshoots enterprise systems equipment and the supporting monitoring and alerting stack.
• Resolves complex issues spanning compute, storage, network, OS, and application layers.
• Assists other teams with installing and configuring Windows and Linux servers and provides automated build standards so those teams can self-serve.
• Works with vendors such as Nutanix, Microsoft, and enterprise storage and backup providers.
• Designs, tests, and documents backup, replication, and disaster recovery, including restore testing and recovery time validation.
• Mentors other Systems Engineers and raises the team's automation and scripting skill level.
• Provides on call support required to bring production systems to operational states.
• Oversees diagnosis and troubleshooting activities and resolves technical problems that occur.
• Performs system administration functions necessary to support continuous day to day operations.
• Performs expansion, relocation, and consolidation of systems infrastructure for all corporate locations.
• Develops and maintains systems documentation, runbooks, and architecture diagrams.
• Supports patching, hardening, and audit and compliance requirements through documented change control.
• Provides root cause analysis for outages and delivers SOPs.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field of study, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum eight (8) years of experience with Windows Server and Linux Server operating systems, enterprise virtualization, storage, and backups.
• Minimum three (3) years of hands‑on experience with Nutanix AHV and Prism, or equivalent hyperconverged platform experience with a clear path to Nutanix.
• Demonstrated experience automating infrastructure at scale with Ansible or Ansible Automation Platform, including inventory design, roles, and job templates.
• Advanced PowerShell scripting, including modules, remoting, error handling, and automation against Active Directory, Windows Server, and REST APIs. Candidates should expect to discuss real scripts they have written.
• Working Python experience for automation, API integration, and tooling.
• Experience with AWS core services and hybrid cloud connectivity.
• Experience with Git and source‑controlled infrastructure code.
• Experience with enterprise backup and DR platforms such as Veeam, Rubrik, or Commvault.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tooling.
• Experience or strong knowledge with Docker and container orchestration preferred. Kubernetes experience is a plus.
• Strong Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, PKI, and Group Policy experience.
• Experience in a regulated or compliance sensitive environment preferred.

Certifications (preferred):

• Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP-MCI) or Nutanix Certified Master
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or SysOps Administrator
• Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (AZ-800/AZ-801)
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) a plus
