The Position

The Sr Systems Analyst - Research Informatics will play a crucial role in supporting research-specific software services and assisting in the deployment of new software systems to enhance research functions. Reporting directly to the Sr Manager of Research Informatics, the Sr Analyst will provide essential support for scientific software such as Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN), Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), and data management and capturing systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in implementing and configuring the Benchling ELN platform to support our research and development activities. They should have a strong background in software development and a deep understanding of scientific workflows in Translational Medicine and Discovery Research. Additionally, the analyst will serve as the technical owner and designer of a Benchling software product that serves as the central RNA database, and will be responsible for the administration and training of new scientists on these software platforms.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with the Discovery & Translational Sciences team to become a trusted advisor and partner; may need to represent Research Informatics at key meetings with leaders in Research
• Work with Research Informatics and the greater IS & Informatics team to remove roadblocks and continue its growth as a high-performing team
• Manage Vendors and Consultants to optimally deliver Solutions to Arrowhead research in optimizing costs and timelines for projects
• Lead a team as a facilitator towards project development and execution
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand business requirements and objectives for the Benchling ELN platform
• Customize the Benchling platform to capture additional categories of data and expand its use beyond Corporate R&D
• Continuously review and analyze current business processes and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement, automation, and alignment with business needs
• Train and onboard new hires to the Benchling platform, including developing and maintaining ongoing training resources
• Serve as the primary Benchling contact for Information Systems & Informatics in Research & Translational Sciences
• Coordinate with group leads from different R&D sites to prioritize and execute data management and database administrative tasks
• Apply Agile Project Management and SDLC best practices for software deployment and administration
• Develop and implement robust analytics and reporting tools to provide actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making
• Manage relationships with vendors and consultants in the Research Digital Platform space
• Develop new solutions for the Research Informatics data management platforms and contribute to the IS&I Digital Roadmap
• Support laboratory informatics solutions, including ELN and LIMS
• Assist in implementing data strategies to leverage AI and ML for in silico modeling and research insights

Requirements :

• Bachelor’s degree in scientific field such as Biology, Chemistry, or Informatics
• 3+ years of experience implementing LIMS or ELN platforms, ideally with Benchling
• Strong understanding of laboratory operations and scientific workflows
• Solid understanding of development best practices, including SDLC
• Experience working in the Life Sciences industry

Preferred :

• Experience leading a digital transformation of an R&D organization
• Experience leading Agile teams
• Certified Scrum Master and / or Product owner
