Job Summary

The Sr. Systems Administrator, Point of Sale is responsible for designing, configuring, and optimizing our point of sale (POS) systems and associated hardware and third party integrations. This role is responsible for technical ownership and leadership of integrated systems and requires in-depth knowledge of POS technology, hardware, and networking, along with a proven track record in system design and management. This role is responsible for ensuring seamless POS integrations with payment processing gateways, card access and meal plan management systems, labor tracking, and data flow into backend financial systems. Additionally, this role is responsible for vetting and applying upgrades to maintain security and hardware compatibility and may be required to evaluate alternative systems and develop strategies for upgrades and/or migration. This individual works closely with our internal teams and external partners to align these systems with business needs, and manages implementation projects from scoping through to completion. They work with external partners to define user experience requirements, influence product roadmaps, and perform user acceptance testing (UAT). The individual in this role is expected to have a working knowledge of multiple different POS platforms currently in use, particularly Micros Simphony and CBORD/Transact, and may need to upskill themselves on new and emerging systems.

Responsibilities:

  1. POS System Design, Configuration, and Maintenance (60%):
  2. Lead the design, configuration, and maintenance of POS and related meal plan management systems, ensuring they align with the business needs and goals.
  3. Ensure seamless integration between POS and other payment, labor, financial, card-access, and third-party ordering systems. Manage relationships with external partners to ensure business needs alignment.
  4. Possess an in-depth understanding of POS hardware components and peripherals, and assist with hardware maintenance and troubleshooting, working closely with vendors and IT teams.
  5. Ensure that the POS systems comply with all relevant industry standards and regulations, including data security, menu taxing, service charges, etc. Ensure users are able to generate necessary reports from POS system.
  6. Create and maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, changes, and procedures.
  7. Project & Partner Management (30%):
  8. Serve as POS subject matter expert within a team of skilled professionals, providing guidance, support, and training as needed, and hold teammates and partners accountable for deliverables.
  9. Coordinate cross-functional internal and external teams to ensure accurate configuration of systems, menus, meal plans, and core POS functions across the organization. Independently organize, execute, and deliver complex POS implementation projects, keeping stakeholders informed of progress.
  10. Manage productive status meetings, vendor calls, and quarterly business reviews to meet designated deadlines for new technology implementations and align product roadmaps to long-term business strategies.
  11. Effectively utilize tools like Teams to manage meeting agendas, shared files, and team communication. Accurately track open issues and enhancement requests.
  12. System Evaluation and Upgrades (10%):
  13. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in the field of POS and retail systems.
  14. Proactively identify opportunities to improve systems/processes. Design, implement, and communicate solutions.
  15. Scope new features, change requests, and new business needs and identify benefits, risks, costs, gaps, and collateral impacts.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  2. 6+ years of experience in the management and design of enterprise POS and retail systems. Must also have experience/familiarity with card access systems and their integration into the POS.
  3. Excellent project management skills; ability to meet deadlines, manage stakeholder expectations, and facilitate collaborative problem solving in a fast-paced retail environment. Ability to proactively identify potential challenges and opportunities, and adjust project plans accordingly.
  4. Strong knowledge of POS hardware, software, and associated peripherals.
  5. Understanding of networking concepts as they relate to POS systems.
  6. Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  7. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  8. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to articulate complex ideas to technical and non-technical teammates and end-users.
  9. Minimal travel may be required for on-site implementation and troubleshooting.
  10. Industry certifications are a plus.
