In this fully remote role, you will lead the architecture, engineering, deployment, and security compliance of large-scale infrastructure and cloud systems supporting mission-critical federal health programs.

You will work at the intersection of enterprise infrastructure, HIPAA/FISMA security governance, and clinical/federal systems integration, ensuring high availability, strict regulatory compliance, and seamless cross-functional delivery across agencies such as HHS, CMS, VA, Defense Health Agency (DHA), or NIH.

Key Responsibilities

  • Authority to Operate (ATO) Support: Drive the technical aspects of the ATO lifecycle by engineering required technical controls, implementing DISA STIGs and CIS Benchmarks, and mitigating Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) remediation items.

  • Health Systems & Data Integration: Architect and maintain backend infrastructure supporting Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) integrations, health data analytics platforms, and secure health data exchange standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM), ensuring Protection of PHI/PII data in transit and at rest.

  • Systems Administration & Observability: Administer enterprise Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments, network pathways, identity management systems (Active Directory, Okta, SAML, PIV/CAC integration), and CI/CD/observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk).

  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership: Partner with software developers, data engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and federal contracting officers (CORs/COTRs); mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews and architecture standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Work Experience:

    • Mid-Level: 5+ years of systems engineering, cloud engineering, or DevOps experience, with at least 3+ years directly supporting federal healthcare agencies (e.g., HHS, CMS, VA, DHA, NIH) or federal health IT contractors.

    • Senior-Level: 8+ years of enterprise systems engineering experience, with 4+ years dedicated to federal healthcare systems and compliance frameworks.

  • Technical Proficiency:

    • Hands-on expertise with AWS GovCloud or Azure Government, Terraform/Ansible, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS/AKS).

    • Advanced proficiency in Linux (RHEL preferred) or Windows Server administration paired with shell scripting capabilities (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).

    • In-depth practical knowledge of NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, HIPAA, and DISA STIG baseline implementations.

  • Certifications (Must possess at least ONE valid certification):

    • Cloud: AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional), Azure Solutions Architect, or AWS Certified Security - Specialty.

    • Security & Compliance: CISSP, CompTIA Security+, CISA, or CCSP.
