Job description

Eligible candidates will be offered a sign-on bonus of up to $25,000 based on their years of experience!

Work under the direct supervision of a Clinician to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures in a specific service. Coordinates instrumentation, equipment, and supplies to ensure proper use and availability for quality patient service. Perform advanced tasks in an operating room that assist the surgical team. Work on complex surgical procedures within at least three surgical specialties. Arrange sterile setup for surgeries; pass instruments, sponge, and sutures to surgeons and assistants; prepare sterile supplies; assist in cleanup; check equipment; and restock supplies. May be responsible for special trays, grafting materials, and recording patient data. Accountable for instrumentation, equipment, and supplies to ensure proper use and availability for quality patient service.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach both skill and theoretical principles to new employees and students.
  • During surgery, efficiently pass instruments and supplies; assist with retractors, sutures, sponging, and counting supplies.
  • Assist in repairs, ordering, and maintenance of supplies, equipment, lasers, and instrumentation related to the specialty service. Supervise the use of supplies and equipment for patient care and safety.
  • Prepare the operating room by setting up instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions. Assemble equipment and ensure proper functioning.
  • Demonstrate initiative in problem solving to improve OR function and operations.
  • Coordinate supervision of surgical technicians; serve as Lead on shifts; teach new staff and students.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including aseptic site preparation, transportation, positioning, and draping. Assist with gowning and gloving.
  • Scrub, maintain asepsis, sterilize instruments, set up for procedures, hand instruments, and store equipment.
  • Assist with specimen care and disposal, and apply dressings.
  • Support cost containment in materials and equipment use.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of a surgical specialty or broad knowledge of multiple specialties.
  • Communicate effectively with the surgical team and other departments. Serve as a resource and identify process improvements.
  • Ensure medication labeling and handing; assist with patient transfer post-surgery; clean and restock the OR; maintain safety and aseptic techniques.
  • Mentor staff and precept students and new employees.
